Carter Stevens' Avon 7 Collection

Here we go with this one we have the last volume in the Carter Stevens collection with film, unless something changed since the last communication I had with Michael Rasso only a compilation of loops is on the program. This one countains the three films he did for the Avon Theatre : Bizarre Style, Wicked Schoolgirls and House of Sin. Before I start with the films themselves I must say I don't like the cover, but as I say often what matters is the content not the wrapping.

House of Sin (1982)

This one starts with a young woman (Jean Silver) who after a car accident goes with a man (Robert Kerman) at his house to call for help (what she will never do...). Sadly she pick the wrong guy as he turns to be the leader of a satanic cult. So she is drugged while eating at the house and everybody, except her, have sex. When she wake up after she had sex with one of the member (Honey Stevens) but forgot it's diner time. While waiting to eat, Mistress Candice and her slave (David Christopher) come for an S&M show. Evangeline (Silver) find this disgusting and leaves, but did she?

For an Avon's film this one is really tame. If it wasn't for the S&M final with bonus peeing you wouldn't thing that you are watching one of their production. This one include a commentary track with Carter Stevens where he doesn't talk that much about the film per se, but discuss about the Avon Theatre, the Hellfire Club, Phil Prince and many other subjects. This is just too bad he doesn't talk a lot of Jean Silver as I would have love to know more about her. The film has a running time of 1h09m49 and seems complete to me.

Bizarre Styles (1981)

This one is about a lingerie store that is in fact a front for a prostitution bussiness, at least it looks like that to me. Seriously I can't wrote anything else than that about this film...

What I can wrote about on the other side is the quality, After Hour Cinema really got a bad print on this one. I don't talk of an highly dammage image as I can live with that, but of an highly cut presentation. Indeed the film runs only for 1h05m18 and the cuts are obvious. The peeing scene in the first S&M scene is missing in action and the fisting is nowhere to be seen. The editing is weird but in this case maybe it's the way the film is, it was the first time I watched this title so I can't be sure. Also the music doesn't seem all original, at least not the annoying keyboard instrumental repeated over and over. I won't fault After Hour Cinema for the cut as it isn't a practice they do usually. Anyway if it was them the last S&M scene would be cut and it isn't...Seriously if I would have bought the set for this one only I would be very disappointed.

Anybody knows if the version included in the Vanessa Del Rio Triple Feature Volume 08 released by Alpha Blue Archives is complete?

Wicked Schoolgirls (1980)

Finally the important film in the set and the only one that can be consider as one (House of Sin doesn't have enough story for my taste). Of course the synopsis isn't that complicated, I mean it's an Avon's film. basically this is about a girl who is blackmailed because of some naked pictures. Of course she will get them back with the help of her brother and all will end well with some brother and sister love.

As an Avon film this one is also very tame, but it's a fun movie to watch. Of course there is a domination scene at the beginning between Giggles (Sonya Summers) and David Ruby, but the outcome is more funny than anything. This is of course the first film of Velvet Sommers who play one of the teenager in the feature. The film is more or less complete with some dialogue missing before Velvet goes to the bathroom and the peeing, wich isn't a big deal. There is a two minutes difference between the two versions I have, but I didn't notice anything else that important missing except some dialogues. But some of the music is changed so no Patti Page song during the doggie scene, no Chuck Berry song during the masturbation scene but strangely the instrumental version of Planet Clair is always there. This one came also with a commentary. I thing the version here is perfectly acceptable and look a hell of a lot better than what I had previously.

All thing considerate this 2 DVD film collection is recommanded and came also with a Carter Stevens' interview and a lot of trailers. Young, Wild & Wonderful (1980)

Jim Clark is always hit or miss for me, I like his movies or hate them. So I'm always anxious to sit in front of my TV starting one. Luckily this one is in the enjoyable category, in fact of the one I've seen it was the most agreeable to watch.

The film synopsis is quite simple and is about a group of student doing a field trip at a museum. What they in this visit is listen a presentation by an employee (Eric Edwards) on the arts in general, at least they don't seem to do anything else. So during the showing the students goes astray in fantasy produced by the subjects discussed. The first is from The Rape of the Sabine Women and, you guess it, it's a rape fantasy with Sally O'Keefe, Rod Pierce, Jerry Butler, Lisa Beth and George Payne. Of course being a Jim Clark's film this isn't really extreme, but George Payne is George Payne. Next a sculpture of Claes Oldenburg bring us to a group scene with Merle Michaels, Brian Palmer, George Payne, Rod Pierce and Jerry Butler. Next a great scene between Arcadia Lake and Eric Edwards following a discussion about Paul Gauguin. Finally Lake and Edwards are back with Kandi Barbour where Edwards became a wrecked sailor in the 19th century tahiti. Some events happen too in the field trip that aren't related to the group presentation.

It's was a funny time and contrary to Debbie Does Dallas none of the acting is really bad. Certainly not a waste of time and, as a bonus, I've learned who is Claes Oldenburg...

The Chameleon (1989)

The basic idea of this one is interesting as it deals with shape-shifting. Of course being an eighties production there are way too many sex scenes and the story is not that develop, but as it isn't a complicated one this is fine. Richard Pacheco who plays a psychiatrist brings a little bonus in the acting side (even if I've seen him doing better than that), Tori Wells is fine (what can I say I love her STFU attitude) and Tom Byron is good as the whimperer Diana's boyfriend.

Nothing out of the ordinary for a production of those years, except for the fact the photograpy work look good and the film doesn't look like a cheap production. We even get a surprise ending, but since the story doesn't have enough screen time it kind of doesn't make sense (even if we got a couple of hints in the movie).

Victoria Paris, Selena Steele, Peter North, Buck Adams, Joey Silvera and Debi Diamond amongst others are also in the cast.

I purchased my copy a long time ago from Excalibur Films, if you got it don't expect a great release. You got the film and this is it.

The films of Carter Stevens 1977 - 1979

Today's something I don't usually do the review of a complete movie set. This set is the third one in the Carter Stevens After Hour Cinema Grindhouse Director Series (or the fourth one if we count the soft version of Pleasure Palace / Punk Rock released previously in colaboration with Secret Key Motion Pictures). The films included this time are Double your Pleasure (1978), The Love Couch (1978) and the hard version of Pleasure Palace (1979). Once again like the two precedent volumes the movies are remastered from film elements, so the previous versions thus become obsolete. The collection is presented on two DVDs, a commentary track by Carter Stevens himself for the film Pleasure Palace is present (by cons if you already have the soft version the commentary is the same), some trailers for some of his films are in the set (Highway Hookers is the only one I have not seen yet and it looks interesting to me) and a short interview with Carter Stevens is also included.

Double Your Pleasure (1978)

The twin sisters (Brooke and Taylor Young) are back together again two years after the success of Teenage Twins. In this film they flee in the big city after they catched their uncle (Jake Teague) while he was having an affair with his secretary (Rikki O'Neal) at the office. At the same moment they fled a large sum of money disappears from their uncle's safe too. Have they stolen the money? That's what their uncle will try to know by hiring a private detective (D. Hartman) to find them. From that time we will follow the twins during their adventures in New York. The scenario is not very developed and it's still an excuse to watch two sisters having sexual relations together. But at least this time the distribution is interesting, with among others Roger Caine, Herschel Savage, David Morris, Dave Ruby, Ron Hudd, Bobby Astyr, Merle Michaels, Samantha Fox and Jill Monroe. I enjoyed this one a lot more than Teenage Twins, but the Young sisters are not really my type.

The Love Couch (1978)

Again, a scenario that is not very complex. A sofa tells us the adventures he has lived or rather the adventures experienced on it. Despite the fact the whole looks like a loop carrier (which it isn't) the film is still interesting for the diversity of situations and an interesting distribution (not to mention that Anna Beth is involved in three of these scenes).

Pleasure Palace (1979)

Finally with this one I got exactly what I like in an adult film : a movie with sex scenes and not an excuse to present sex scenes. In this film Jimmy Stone (Eric Edwards) and Mike Green (Robert Kerman) acquires a massage parlor and everything is fine with the local authorities until Joe Goodson (Jamie Gillis), the local boss decides to take the control of their bussiness. Do Jimmy and Mike will be able to resist and retain their business? This film deserves to be compared to the productions of Radley Metzger, Anthony Spinelli or Armand Weston. An excellent film in the crime genre where Carter Stevens manages to make us forget that we watch an adult film (no more sex scenes happen for more than twenty minutes at the end of the film and surprisingly we do not realize it as we are so stuck in the story). A faultless performance by the main cast (Eric Edwards, Robert Kerman, Jamie Gillis and Serena), supported by Roger Caine, Bobby Astyr, David Pierce, Jake Teague and Joey Silvera in smaller parts. A surprise ending to a story well written by Richard Jaccoma and Carter Stevens. Certainly the masterpiece in the career of Carter Stevens.

Teenage Nurses (1974)

I had read plenty about this film before seeing it, but nevertheless I was totally unprepared for what I saw. This is undoubtedly the most bizarre adult film's I've seen so far, certainly not erotic or exciting but fun to watch for other reasons.

Basically this film takes place in a hospital for wounded veterans of the Vietnam War. A new doctor (Jeffrey Hurst with an accent quite pronounced) makes his arrival at the hospital to implement a new entertainment system for the veterans. It would be easy to think that this will be more or less Candy Stripper well no ... You have to take entertainment for exactly what the word means and that is where the bizarre begins. Indeed throughout the film we will see performances by several real burlesque artists. In fact, many times the action is interrupted by performances of singers, dancers, jugglers and even a band wearing the weird transparent mask from Last House on Dead End Street during his performance. If this is not strange enough you can add Shaun Costello playing a journalist, with a look that must be seen, who sure had some difficulties to remain serious (something quite understandable) or the presence of a laugh track or the fact that one scene outside the hospital is repeated twice. While watching I was unable to stop thinking at the audience watching this movie at the Capri Theatre in 1974 and I couldn't stop laughing imagining their reactions to what was on the screen in front of them.

As mentioned at the beginning this is not really an exciting film and the action isn't really well-filmed, but this movie is entertaining for what it is: a chance for many old artists to demonstrate they are still able to perform quite well. The film distribution includes Valerie Marron, Laura Cannon, Sandy Foxx, Jamie Gillis, Fred Lincoln, Ashley Moore, Levi Richards and of course a lot of burlesque artists.

I know it isn't a review, but don't worry the blog isn't dead. In fact the task who took most of my time since the beginning of the year is now done, so I'm ready to resume my writing duty... maybe tonight if nothing happen.

Girl Scout Cookies (1976)

New York, 1976, the mayor is preparing the next election with a campaign to clean the streets of the city by attacking the prostitution (What else is new?). Certainly one of the most successful campaign since there are only seven prostitutes remaining in the city when the film began. Two of them (Crystal Sync and a complete stranger) are preparing themselves to hang up their skates (I'm Canadian so it's sure I have to use an hockey term somewhere in my blog) and put a stop at their career by receiving their last client (Mel White). But chance helping after finishing the job a girl scout comes at the door to sell cookies. A visit that will give the idea to the actress whose name I do not know (which is sad because she looks great) to personify a Girl Scout and use this ploy to sell her charms.

Without being one of the best production of Shaun Costello this one is still interesting for numerous reasons. Among them the lead actress (it's amazing how she looks young), the variety of scenes (mild sado-masochism, double vaginal penetration,...), the presence of John Leslie as a master of disguise (ok just one and not that spectacular) and the fast pace. One criticism I could make is that the end seems rushed and the final orgy seems unfinished.

This one is available from Alpha Blue Archive in a great set, but as I've already said previously it is quite overprice for an unauthorized release with very few remastering works done.

The Love Bus (1974)

In this film the gorgeous Jennifer Jordan plays the part of Barbara , a woman who has difficulties to feel involved in her relationship with the opposite sex. To help her overcome this blockade her psychiatrist (Jamie Gillies) advises her to attend a weekend with an organized group to overcome her apprehensions. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on the perspective) all will not proceed as planned.

Before starting the movie I was expecting something similar to Lickity Split and it seemed that it would be the case when all the group embarked on a bus trip. But nothing happen during the ride since the bus driven by Kevin André is involved in an accident . An accident that forces the whole group to stay at an hostel owned by a couple (Sonny Landham with a redneck accent that come and go and Linda Lovemore). The big difference with the preceding film is the fact that the distribution is talented enough to be able to improvise interesting dialogues. The distribution includes among others in addition of the names already mentioned Marc Stevens, Levi Richards, Leo Lovemore, Day Jason, Shaun Costello, Rita Davis and Judith Hamilton (which I'm not a big fan and still isn't). There are a good part of comedy in this film, mostly due to Leo Lovemore and Mark Stevens and you feel that everyone involved had a good time.

The film even includes a fisting scene between Jamie Gillis and Rita Davis, this is always appreciated when we know how some labels removed them from the DVD release of their film. Video-X-Pix certainly deserves a lot of praise for not having censored a classic like VCA always does. There is also an interesting threesome between Leo Lovemore, Shaun Costello and Day Jason (which is certainly not the case with the other one with Jennifer Jordan, Sonny Landham and Judith Hamilton). I've even been afraid for awhile to have a sex scene with a pregnant woman, but thank God it didn't happen. I'm pretty open sexually talking, but some things do not interest me at all.

By cons at some point the film is a little bit dark making it difficult to see some close-up. But this doesn't happen too often and I'm not sure if this is due to an insufficient lighting when the film was originally shoot or the material used for the DVD (this is a video transfer). I am certain that a new transfer would correct this slight problem, but I don't think this movie is a candidate for the Platinum Collection. But of course I could be wrong.

This film is highly recommanded if you are a fan of Shaun Cotello and is available from Video-X-Pix.

Pen Pals (1973)

Chuck (Levi Richards) and Carmen (Tony Scott) held a meeting with four of their pen pals (Mary Stuart, Davey Jones, Mel White and one girl I don't know) from all the corners of the United States and all this turns as a sex party. Everything stops there because this film has no story beyond that and the whole is more or less fifty minutes of sex non-stop. This may sound interesting but it is not ... Apart from Mary Stuart no actresses are really attractive and the sex is rather mechanical, repetitive and boring (except the scenes with Mary Stuart where we are able to feel some emotion from her). In a movie when the best part is the night footages of New York it's pretty clear that we aren't on a joy ride.

I really do not have very much positive to say, but I did laugh to hear Shaun Costello directing the actors during a sex scene and at the countless flubbed lines ... The instrumental from the end of Misty Bethoven is often used and you have no idea how I would had like to see Constance Money doing an apparition in this mess. One thing for sure the next couldn't be worse.

Forced Entry (1973)

First movie directed by Shaun Costello and a production that is preceded by its reputation. The story basically is about a Vietnam veteran and his return to civilian life. If there's one thing I learned by watching movies is that many of them came back traumatized by the experience. Obviously this is also true for the "hero" of our story. So the former soldier who is never named is at his return either the owner of a gas station or an attendant at this station (but probably more the owner since he can go when he wishes to do so) and he enters in his Vietnam flashback mode when some women come to refuel their car. In his flashback mode he stalks his victims to kill and as this is an adult film, have a little fun.

There is no real consensual sex relationship in this film if we except the scene between Juta David and Shaun Costello (the only other male actor in this movie with the killer), so if you do not like when a movie is a little bit rough this one will not be your cup of tea. If I say rough you can take my word for it as the whole is accompanied by convincing special effects, at least for the second victim and the rapes are intercut with archive images of the Vietnam War. What makes the film is the performance of Laura Cannon when she was attacked at her home, a performance so greatly executed that it's worthy of an Oscar®. Something I sure can't say about the two "actresses" playing the hippies, I've never seen people as annoying and stressful than those two... Honestly I think I would have done the same thing the killer did if I would have been confronted at these two women. If they would have been in the old anti-drug psa, I can assure you that these ads would have been effective.

Excellent career start for one of the most prolific director of this genre (what you will see throughout the month of march since the whole month will be devoted to Shaun Costello) and a film that I highly recommend.

The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann (1975)

As this year the Radley Metzger's productions will finally receive the treatment his name deserve I decided to revisit them to finish the month of February. I also decided to take the DVD versions and not the video versions (except for Naked Came the Stranger since I found no reason to justify an upgrade of my tape in this release). So we start this series with the film with which Metzger has made the transition, of course it started with Score and if I have time I will close with this title but I decided to open where the real transition has begun.

The story at first view may seem simple because it's about a husband (Alan Marlowe) who hires a private detective (Eric Edwards) to follow his wife (Barbara Bourbon) he thinks unfaithful. This does not seem very new, but things are not always what they seem to be. So for most of the film we follow as the detective the tribulations of Pamela Mann in the course of this day.

In this film we see perfectly the difference a director can do (which is also the case with Joe Sarno). There is a progression in the sexual scenes that are not a collage of five interminable scenes of twenty minutes without emotions. The result is an highly erotic film as I love them. Simple details such as the use of slow motion or the presence of many mirrors or the lighting used (which will be much more apparent in the remastered version that Video-X-Pix prepare actually) adds greatly to the visual experience. The film is also accompanied by an excellent soundtrack which also adds a lot to the erotic mood, the final being the perfect example of this. The film also relies on a strong distribution with, in addition of the names already mentioned, Georgina Spelvin, Jamie Gillis (his big scene is cut in this version), Darby Lloyd Rains, Marc Stevens, Sonny Landham, Kevin Andre (short cameo at the beginning) and Levi Richards.

Obviously I recommend waiting until the upcoming release of the Video-X-Pix remastered version and pass this one. The mere fact that a scene is missing is already a good reason, but the presentation itself is not that great (the colors are rather dull and the print had it's good share of dammage). But on the other side the commentary track with Eric Edwards and Veronica Hart is interesting and I would be really surprised to see it appear in the next version.

I've keep this one secret since it isn't fun when we talk about something and that doesn't happen. In fact only one of my reader knew it before the announce. So here we go : I'm a writer on the new DistribPix portal, so from now on my reviews of the Video-X-Pix materials will be posted there.

Of course my blog is always alive since I will continue to review the rest of what I watch here. I'll try to watch something later this week and untill then my review of The Postgraduate Course in Sexual Love is available.

Blue Ice (1985)

What's best for my comeback than a detective story featuring Nazi scientists, a mysterious old book and all this in a high-quality film. This film directed by Phillip Marshak (who also did The Nightmare Never Ends, an horror movie much better than it's reputation could make you believe it is) has a pretty strong cast with Herschel Savage, Paul Thomas, Jamie Gillis, Helga Sven (for once I enjoyed her presence), Jacqueline Lorians, Shanna McCullough, Bill Margold, Danielle Martin and Francois Papillon (which has not a single line since his french accent is quite hard to impersonate a German accent) among others.

Ted Singer (Herschel Savage) is a detective hired by Big Man (Jamie Gillis) to find an ancient book with strong powers for its owner, something he doesn't know of course. What he doesn't know also is that a group of scientists who fled Nazi Germany when the nazi power collapsed is looking for this book too, but they know what is its power. Surprise, the leader of this group of scientists is Reggie Nalder (a very recognizable character actor who was in Mark of the Devil, Salem's Lot and many other "mainstream" films). This group of scientists was working on a formula to instantly transform any woman in nymphomaniac before fleeing Nazi Germany, a point that is never really explained or used if it is only in the beginning of the film. It is clear that more Singer approaches the book the more he is in a collision course with the Nazis with a series of deaths along his path.

For a film made in 1985 the quality is strong and one quickly sees that it was made with an interesting budget and was not done in one day with a video camera (which is the case for most of the movies made in those years). Even more interesting is the fact that it would be equally interesting and logical without the sex scenes that come all for good reasons and are not there to be there. The most interesting is that just yesterday I was explaining the difference between an adult film and a pornographic movie to someone (a situation that happens quite frequently when we write and vow a great respect for the adult film industry) and this film is a perfect example of what an adult film is and what a pornographic movie isn't.

I won't tell you more about the film, since it would ruined the story and its multiple surprises.

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, a month is long enough. I was busy cataloging my collection of movie, a task I haven't completed yet. Not to mention the DVD player on my computer that has a hard time reading the disc for quite some time, something that made me lose my patience on multiple occasions last month. My patience has its limits so I decided to invest and got a blu-ray reader and watch my films on the big screen.

I'm back and I feel better than ever and I promise you that I will write at least two or three articles per week.

I will begin in a few moments with the movie I've watch tonight.

The Jade Pussycat (1977)

I think this is the first Johnny Wadd's movie I speak about on my blog. I could start with the original, but to be honest this film is not very good (by cons the dvd supplements are and make the purchase worthwhile) and watching it once was more than enough for me.

In this film, the eleventh in the series (counting The Danish Connection which is softcore), Johnny Wadd is hired by Jenny (Jessica Temple-Smith) to find her brother (Jon Martin) who has disappeared, leaving behind a short message and a mysterious key. The viewer already knows what happened to him, he was betrayed by his partner (Linda Wong) after the theft of the Jade pussycat an ancient Chinese artifact. The investigation of Wadd will focus on the key and what it means. An investigation during which he will face a Chinese gang (led by Bob Chinn himself) and a German criminal (Steve Balint) who commissioned the theft of the Jade pussycat first.

We soon see that John Holmes has completely the personage (after ten films this is not surprising) and the formula is well established. Indeed during the investigation Wadd will met many female characters and it will always end in the same way. So if you're not a fan of John Holmes forgot this movie since he sees the large majority of the action. Although the film seems to be done on autopilot it is still interesting and Holmes is still at the top of his career. The story has enough turnaround to sustain the interest. The acting talent is of course uneven (Bob Chinn is certainly a better director than actor), but overall it is more than suitable. There is also a little bit of humor present (but not always successful) and the story remains open at its conclusion. A conclusion that will happen in China Cat, the next film in the series. In addition to the names already mentioned the cast include among others Georgina Spelvin (excellent as usual), Paula Wain, Bonnie Holiday and Yvonne Green.

I have no problem to recommend this film which is available through Adult DVD Pacific et Adult DVD Marketplace.

Debbie Does Dallas (1978)

I do not think it necessary to write the synopsis of this film since it is quite well known. This is a movie that I watch fairly regularly despite the fact that I have many films of better qualities. Indeed, the scenario is not the most original and the acting talent of some actresses is more than bad (Bambi Woods is the perfect example of that, her line delivery is sure awfull), but this movie has a little something special. Of course there Bambi Woods, but when you look at the distribution more closely we see that it is filled with big name. Indeed, Christie Ford, Rikki O'Neal, Merle Michaels, Georgette Saunders, Arcadia Lake and Kasey Rodgers are all part of the cheerleading squad. In addition of Robert Kerman, Eric Edwards, Jake Teague, Herschel Savage, David Morris and Tony Mansfield of the male side. It should also be added that some of the scenes are quite hot, for example one that takes place in the locker room shower (it almost makes me want to go back to the university to try it). There are of course the teasing game with Bambi Woods, Jim Buckley, the director, knows what the viewer expects and he sure make him wait (70 minutes to finally reach the big scene between Bambi Woods and Robert Kerman).

The waiting time isn't that long since the rest of the cast do a good job. I must also admit that I prefer Rikki O'Neal a lot more than Bambi Woods, which is a bit annoying because her scene is a poor threesome with Jenny Cole and David Pierce.

In short, a classic in which it is always nice to dive back.

The version I own is the Definitive Collector's Edition released four years ago by Kitty Media that contains two of the worst commentary tracks I have ever heard (one totally useless with Robin Byrd and the other incredibly boring with Phillip Charles Bernstene), but the film quality is 100% better than the other release I bought from Excalibur Films some years before (the price is lower but it's taken from a tape master and the sound isn't really good). Another version was also release later without the TV cable version (wich isn't a big loss) and a commentary track with Herschel Savage, but I'm unable to locate it at all (wich is annoying since I would like to have it). There is also the Wild Side Video version released in february this year who is probably the best one (judging from the other titles I own in this collection) that I don't own yet, but will certainly get later (I'm a sucker for the numbered collection even when the titles are quite costly to get because we must import them).

Teenage Twins (1976)

This film is the only one I had to remove from the previous site where I posted my reviews (I think it was there for one day at best). Which is understandable since this film contains scenes between two twin sisters and this website is family friendly. Now that I write on my own blog this is not really something I worry about, I could write about Animal Farm or Schulmädchen - Rasiert und mehr ein pisschen and it would not cause any problems. But do not worry, I have no intention of talking about that kind of cinema ...

Teenage Twins is included in the second volume of Carter Stevens' films recently release by After Hours Cinema. As the title indicates the film has two twin sisters who certainly are not teenagers. The story is not really important since it makes no sense anyway. But in summary it is about a rare book uncovered by the stepfather of the twins girls who has many rituals including one to live forever, all that accompanied by way too many sex scenes.

Certainly not a great movie and I'm sure Carter Stevens would be the first to admit it. It's more a case of "we discovered two twin sisters ready to do it on screen we need to make a movie fast" than anything else. It is not enough to make a movie interesting for me. Without forgetting that Brooke and Taylor Young are far from being good actresses and are not really my kind of girl (Brooke has a pretty face, but otherwise ...). As I already mentioned the story (for what little there is one) is uninteresting, the cast is mundane (the only exception being Eric Edwards and this is far from being one of his best performances), the music is what you can call "porno music type" and the ensemble looks cheap. Double Your Pleasure the second film from Carter Stevens with the twins is supposed to be better, but it isn't in this set since it was made in 1978 and this one covers the period 1976-1977.

Not a recommanded movie, but don't forget this set include Rollerbabies with a Carter Stevens commentary track (that I won't review, since I already did it back in march) and the X-rated version of Punk Rock that I will probably review in a couple of days.

800 Fantasy Lane (1979)

Second part of our Svetlana's double features this time with her first film. I must begin by saying that this film is rather different from what she will do later. Not that is has not its share of beautiful actresses (which is her forte), but the fact that the film contains a scene quite violent. So once again the scenario is rather simplistic, but effective. Vic (Jamie Gillis) and John (Sam Grady) two pump attendants pretend to be rich oil magnates seeking an office in Hollywood, using the services of Hollywood Star Realty, an agency whose employees will do anything for a sale.

I begin by mentioning since the question was posed to me several times that this is not the version originally presented in theaters, so the fisting scene between Desiree Cousteau and Serena is absent. That said it is a small disappointment since usually the dvds of Wild Side Video are uncut, but it's the only one I had.

If you're a fan of Jamie Gillis (who isn't?) you will certainly appreciate since he is present in the vast majority of the film and as usual his performance is flawless. If you have already watch this movie you know that the highlight of the film is the scene in the cage where Gillis sees himself as a trainer and he must tame Serena, Aubrey Nichols (with an awesome body painting job) and Lisa DeLeeuws. But for me it's the domination scene taking place in the basement of the Hollywood Hills Mansion that is the highlight. Probably one of the most successful I've seen thanks to the high complicity between Jamie Gillis and Serena (the fact that everything is done for real could displease some by cons). An excellent comedy with, in addition of the names already mentioned, Chris Anderson (her first film), Nancy Suiter, Hillary Summers, and Debi Gunter. Without forgetting the excellent cinematography works of Garry Graver, as you can see in the screenshots below.

Sex Boat (1980)

As I already mentioned a few weeks ago I expected this month two new titles in the collection "L'âge d'or du X américain" publish by Wild Side Video and I got them yesterday. So without further ado the first title review.

This is a production of Svetlana, so even before the movie started we can expect a fun movie filled with great looking girls. What will be the case since the distribution includes among others Cody Nicole, Nicole Black, Kandi Barbour, Little Oral Annie, Kelly Nichols, Sylvia Benedict and Loni Sanders. So the story takes place on a cruise ship reserved for a female clientele, which does not happen since two male passengers (Randy West and Turk Lyon) slip on the boat by disguising themselves as women (a scenario that Svetlana will use again four years later in the excellent Bad Girls III). There is also a plot regarding the abduction of a wealthy heiress (Sylvia Benedict), a pirate attack and an introduction that has nothing to do with the rest of the film.

Like most of the other films directed by Svetlana the scenario is not really important and is more a pretext to discover new talents (which I don't like usually, but with the films of Svetlana this is not the case). The interpretation is variable, but Randy West and Turk Lyon give a funny performance. The cinematography by João Fernandes is excellent which is not that surprising since he is one of the best director of photography in the adult cinema with Larry Revene, Bruce Sparks and Garry Graver. This is not a film that I consider essential (especially at this price), but if you want something fun and enjoyable to watch this movie might interest you. It should be noted that once again the quality of the materials used for this DVD is excellent (as you can see in those screen captures).

Joy (1977)

Pleasant classic this time. Joy (Sharon Mitchell) is a young girl who is terrified at the idea of having a sexual relationship to the point where her boyfriend (Jay Pierce) leaves her. The day of their split-up she is raped in her apartment by two thugs. After a struggle she perceives that sex is not such a bad thing. As she will not be satisfied by the thugs, she will do the same with the inhabitants of New York. This does not seem like a greatly develloped scenario (one could even think it's pretty sexist), but this is really not the case. Rather it is an allegory about the society in general and its fear of sex in particular. In fact the film clearly shows that sex is not scary and even useful (just see the satisfaction of Robert Kerman after he was attacked). Everything is presented in a positive and pleasant way (if we except the beginning of Joy's rape). I also like the fact that the scenes are really short. I may be wrong but I interpret this as the disappointment that Joy feels after these relationships (she doesn't get enough). Sharon Mitchell (who looks great in this by the way) provides an excellent performance in this film and there is also a police investigation to find her. The head of the investigation is played by Jake Teague and I must admit that it is his best performance as an actor (not to mention that this is not his usual casting).

The distribution includes many familiar faces (Crystal Sync, Philip Marlowe, Herschel Savage, Veri Knotty, Clea Carson, Bobby Astyr, Gloria Leonard, Roger Caine, Dave Ruby, Eric Edwards ,...), but also many unknowns. Strangely it is the only film directed by Harley Mansfield, but this is probably an alias for someone else ...

This film is available from Video-X-Pix and do I need to say that this one deserve a special edition with a commentary track with Sharon Mitchell (getting Teague for it would be awesome but he doesn't want to talk about this part of his life...). Too bad the shitty economy and the piracy prevent us to get this...

Dr. Bizarro (1983)

Tonight I chose a Phil Prince's film so you already know what to expect without even having seen the film. For those who don't know who is Phil Prince you just need to know that he was the principal director for Avon Productions in the early 80s and he has in his resume some classics like The Story of Prunella, The Taming of Rebecca, Kneel Before Me and Oriental Techniques in Pain and Pleasure. Obviously these films are not for everyone since they are quite violent, but they usually have a story to follow (with the exception of Oriental Techniques in Pain and Pleasure that make no sense). The one I selected this evening did not really have one, it consists of three short scenarios intersected by the intervention of a doctor (Phil Prince) explaining the different cases.

The first case concerns a father (George Payne) who catch his daughter (Velvet Summers) and one of her friend (Ambrosia Fox) on the verge of a lesbian relationship who decide to discipline them. Of course the discipline involves both physical and sexual degradations. We are therefore entitled to a mixture of incest, ass slapping and evidently of verbal degradation since George Payne is present to be the "game master". This parts is the best one (and quite arousing) mostly due to George Payne, who excels in this type of role.

The second case is about the sadomasochistic games between a couple (Cheri Champagne and Alan Adrian) . There will be no surprises if I write that Alan Adrian is the masochist of our couple. This guy really has a high tolerance level. Watching a penis pinched with clothespins, slapped, beaten with a stick and a pair of testicles slapped isn't what I might call the most enjoyable thing to watch on the screen (want it or not we feel the pain). Everything is fine until an intruder (Big Randy Rod) make his entrance through a window and attacks the woman physically and verbally. It all ends with a rape which also involved her husband. Again this segment is quite successful thanks to the credible performance of the players, at least Cheri Champagne seems to be struggling against her attacker and not enjoying it.

The third and last act concerns a case of voyeurism that ends in verbal domination. Ken Yontz is the voyeur who will be dominated by his neighbor (Troy Scalpini). This part is uninteresting, rather boring and does certainly not compared with what preceded it.

As I already mentioned between each case we are entitled to the very non-politically correct comments of Dr. Laurence (but it's more fun to use his real name and to write Dr. Phil).

The version I own doesn't seem to be complete since the version included in the Avon Dynasty Box Set (1980's) countains four cases and not three, but the internet adult film database doesn't seem to agree on that.

She's No Angel (1976)

Something more interesting this time: a one day wonder directed by Shaun Costello. In this movie Sharon Mitchell is a young 13 years old girl on the eve of receiving an inheritance of five million from her grandfather. This obviously does not please her stepmother (Marlene Willoughby) who wants the inheritance for herself. Luckily for her there is a clause in the will that specifies that the girl must be of sound mind at her fourteenth birthday. She will therefore try to make the girl institutionalized because she is a nymphomaniac. Does the doctor (Shaun Costello) will see clearly in her game or is the poor girl will end her days in an institution?

I've never fallen on a production of Shaun Costello I did not like and this film is no exception. As usual the story is well put in place even though the film lasts less than an hour (56 min) and one gets the impression of listening to a movie and not a series of unrelated sex scenes. What makes the film's strength is the interpretation of Shaun Costello (he is a great actor when he wants to be one) and Marlene Willoughby (she has some great lines in this film). The rest of the cast that includes Sharon Mitchell, Beth Anna, Alexandria Cass, David Christopher, Leo Lovemore and Ashley Moore provide adequate performances.

The film uses well the flashback technique to tell the events that will bring the decision on the institutionalization of the girl. Obviously everything is not perfect since it takes a lot of imagination to see Sharon Mitchell and Beth Anna as two thirteen years old girls. But it's the only criticism I can do and, in fact, it isn't really one as if the girls would have looked too young it would have been really unpleasant to watch. For those interested there is also a double vaginal penetration scene in this movie (not that I find that really exciting to watch).

On Golden Blonde (1984)

This one is definitely a trip to memory lane. I rented this film on numerous occasions when I was a teenager (obviously the fact that there were only about ten videos available has certainly played a role in this). The story is quite interesting at first, but as many productions of this period it isn't the priority. The film begins in heaven with a discussion between an angel (W.O. Williams) and Alice (Christy Canyon) which seems to be in a very bad mood. Indeed, there was a case of mistaken identity and Alice should be still alive. The angel will have to correct his mistake and he will do it by finding a new body for Alice. It is from here that the problems begin. Indeed what could be an interesting parody of Heaven Can Wait is only an excuse for a series of sex scene more or less interesting (in fact much less than more). This is surely a disappointment when you consider the fact that the distribution includes among other Ginger Lynn, Gina Carrera (as chance would have it a few days ago I watched Suburbia her first film), Jamie Gillis, Tom Byron and Peter North. The scenario is simply faulty, there is indeed a bit of humor, but except for the first exchange when Alice takes possession of the body of Marilyn (Ginger Lynn) this does not really work. Also having consecutive scenes with the same actress (and twice!) Is quite ordinary. It would be possible to get over these weaknesses considering the time of the production, but there is something else entirely unforgivable. Indeed the film is poorly shot, the cameraman (I can't name him because the credits are completly unreadable) is unable to find a good angle for filming. What you will agree, does not help when the film part is weak.

So except for the memories of my youth this film has nothing special and certainly does not deserve a positive recommendation. One thing is certain, it was much easier to please me when I was 16 years old than now at 40.

Flame (1989)

Today I pick something different than what I usually watch, a romantic film that is aimed at a female audience. The story is rather simple (not to say simplistic) and focuses on two couples where the husband is abusive. Do not expect a great psychological study here, but rather an Harlequin novel type of romance. I must admit that the main reason why I have this movie is Tracey Adams that I have always appreciated. In this film she is married to a rich man (RC Cummings) primarily for the lifestyle he provides, but he will take offense to the fact of catching her in bed with one of his house staff (Chris Alexander, who would later create Anabolic Video) and throw her out after a beating (to be honest it's a single slap on the mouth). She will meet Doris McKenzie (Aja) who invited her to her home where she lives with her husband (Marc Wallice). This relationship is the abusive one since her husband is a cheater, a verbal abuser and he spends most of his time fishing. Obviously everything will end on a positive note as he will understand the harm he did and change his way of acting.

I will not say it's the best 70 minutes I spent watching television. The story is simply too stupid, too cliché and mushy for me ... but obviously I'm not the target audience for this film. By cons I liked the presentation that look a lot more like an erotic movie than a pornographic film. In fact the sex scenes are short, natural and the focus is on the faces and not on the sexual organs. If the history would have been more interesting this would have been exactly my type of movie. Maybe it worths a try if you like the romantics novel...

A little update

Sorry for the lack of reviews in the last two months. I was away from my computer most of the time this summer, so I was unable to watch any adult movies (wich is sure long, as if it isn't enough to be unable to watch horror movies untill october). I will be back soon in a couple of days with some new reviews and I've also pre-ordered two new released of Wild Side Video today for september.

I already own the american released of 800 Fantasy Lane that were sadly cut and I know nothing about Sex Boat. Of course with the quality of the precedent titles of this serie I bought, I expect very high quality again...

I will certainly get more titles next month, but not that much (the horror marathon I'll do in october on DVD Collectors Online had as a result that I buy and pre-order mostly horror movies actually).

Now the worst part is to find something to watch... Not that I don't have a lot of unwatched movies to choose from.

High School Fantasies (1973)

Last January I wrote about Beach Blanket Bango mentioning in passing High School Fantasies from the same director (James Bryan) So today I chose to talk about it. This film is a tribute to the teen movie set in the fifties which is particularly successful whatsoever in the choice of music or the accessories used. This film tells the story of Freddie (Larry Barnhouse) and the difficulties he has with his love life. The film uses more or less the same distribution than Beach Blanket Bango (Rene Bond, Rick Lutze, Nicolle Riddell, Tony Mazziotti and Cindy Taylor) with the addition of April Grant and Maggie Best. This is again a vehicle for Rene Bond, which is certainly not a problem.

Again this time the film has a certain charm because of the absence of cum shot and the brevity of the scenes (certainly no endless marathon of thirty minutes or more here). Although this is not for everyone taste (there must be someone who appreciates those mechanical scenes of 30 minutes since they do only that now), but for me it's a nice way to mix a good story with some sex scenes. This film isn't as good as Beach Blanket Bango, but since you can find them on the same dvd you can see and decide by yourself.

The movie is available from Alpha Blue Archives in their third volume of Rene Bond's triple features (sorry I can't find it at the usual website where I get my movies, so the price isn't cheap). The quality isn't that great (as usual with ABA), but it's better than nothing.

Skin Flicks (1978)

Another wonderful film by Gerard Damiano, but is it really so surprising? This film like A Rising Star that I mentioned last month is about the making of adults films and everything that surrounds the industry, it goes without saying that everything that is wrong with A Rising Star isn't here.

Harry (Tony Hudson), a film director has a lot of trouble with his latest production. He wants to do more than a fuck film what he wants is to produce a real film, but the problems and delays pile up. He can't find a satisfactory end to the great displeasure of Al (Gerard Damiano) its financial backer. But will he succeed in producing his work according to his vision or not?

While watching to the film one can't ignore the fact that Damiano tells his story and that he is Harry. The fact that he speaks knowingly gives a realistic version of what is the industry. The film starts strong with the audition of Ann (Heather Young) where Harry tells her that if she decide to do the movie everyone will recognize her and her life will changed for the better or the worse. It 's clear that it won't be an idealize vision of the industry. The emphasis is really put on the relationship between Harry, his agent (Beerbohn Tree) and Al. Relationships that become increasingly tense as the movie is delayed.

I can't say anything negative about this production who is certainly in the top three of Gerard Damiano. The performance of Tony Hudson (his only film), Damiano (for once he does more than just a cameo), Sharon Mitchell and Beth Anna (for once she gives a good performance as an actress) are faultless. A moment is particularly disturbing, knowing what happened to Sharon Mitchell later in her life, when she is kidnapped and raped by a disturbed fan (Jamie Gillis). Another thing I noticed that makes a big difference with the eighties and nineties productions is the music used that gives a true value to the film. The distribution also includes among other Jill Monroe, Herschel Savage, Joey Silvera and Robert Kerman.

Erotic Adventures of Candy (1978)

Right from the start I must clearly define a fact, Carol Connors is terrible as an actress (she makes Bambi Woods looks like an Oscar worthy actress, which is certainly an achievement). So get ready for 1h25 of poorly delivered comedy. Luckily there are other things that her actresses talent in this film. The story is very simple, it involves a naive young woman (Carol Connors) who wants to explore her sexuality. A search that will bring her in all sorts of situations more or less funny. The film is not as bad as I seem to say it is because despite the obvious lack of acting talent she has, Carol Connors still has two big talents. The film lie mostly on the rest of its distribution to contribute to its interest. In fact the male actors are those which give the good performances in this film whatsoever John Leslie in the role of a gynecologist or John Holmes (for once he gives a good acting performance) in the role of a man insecure with his deformity (guess which one) or Paul Thomas in the role of the leader (or not) of a cult (with an Indian accent as well). The introductory scene of the sect presents several sexual activities which permit us to see Amanda Blake (a complete unknown for most viewers, but she was in the first Swedish Erotica loops that I saw so there is a slight sentimental value for me) and even a little bit of action between man (I'm sure one of them is George Payne, but he is not credited on the Internet Adult Film Database, which proves nothing because there are many errors in it) that make cry some idiots on imdb.

Hot Child In The City (1979)

One of my favorite movies, despite the fact the history is not very original. Brenda (Rikki O'Neal) and Mary Ann (Marcia Minor) two teenage girls miss their bus for a trip to a girl scout camp, but they can't return at their home since their parents believe they are at the camp. So they chose to take the next bus ride and experience the New York adventure. Shortly after their arrival they meet a pimp (Carter Stevens) and began a lucrative career or at least believed it. The synopsis looks dark, but I can assure you this is not the case.

Usually I'm not a big fan of the films of John Christopher, but this one is an exception (as we say every rule has an exception). Of course he uses two loops to fill the time, a practice I hate and even more when the material is in such a pitiful state that it clashes with the rest of the film. But this is the movie that made me really discover Marcia Minor (although she has a small role in Take Off, but that doesn't really count) so it's a big positive. Add to this that I usually appreciate Rikki O'Neal, and you have a good start for an enjoyable film. But what really makes this film fun to watch is the music, although it depends on your disco music appreciation but listening Beautiful Bend, Gene Chandler, Sarah Dash, Metropolis and without forgetting that the movie starts in force musically with Tramontana by Foreigner make you pass a great time. Carter Stevens gives a good performance in the role of the pimp who scam the girls, but he is the only who really has to act. Bobby Astyr, Ron Hudd, Herschel Savage and John Holmes (in one of the two loops) are also in this film. Of course the film end on a good note for our two heroines.

Eduardo Cemano's Sexual Healing Trilogy

Usually I write my reviews for one movie only in my entry, but only a few minutes after I started the first film in this set I was captivated by this one. So much in fact that in one day I watched the three movies, listened the three commentary tracks and watched the three interviews given by Eduardo Cemano... Wich almost never happens when I buy a set. It was the first time I listened a Cemano's production (I have a copy of Thrilling Drilling, but I haven't watch it yet) and I fell in love immediately. His films have all the qualities I look for when I choose to watch an adult production. Obviously the fact that these films were produced in 1972 a time when the industry was not yet defined certainly plays a role in this.

The three films have a common theme. This theme is that nothing is wrong or dirty in the sex who is the most natural thing in the world and that sexual orgasm has therapeutical benefits. But enough talking it's time to leave the spot to the movies themselves.

The Healers (1972)

The film begins with a teacher (Eduardo Cemano) talking about a sex therapy while demonstrating it with the help of a Skeleton, which is rather odd introduction, following this introduction the film as such begins. This is about a clinic using a new technique to treat the illness of the patients, a technique called Orgasmic Free Flow which treated by the achieving of sexual orgasm. Although this may seem unoriginal and boring it isn't the case at all. We're entitled to a highly erotic film by the way it was filmed. Indeed just like in Joe Sarno's Butterflies the actors played their scenes in an unstimulated way, but we don't see the penetration as such or the cumshot (the focus being on the actors' facial reactions) which is much more arousing to look at. The film has a good dose of comedy and exellent acting performances (even more when we take into account the fact that the majority of the dialogue is improvised). The cast include Ultramax (her first film), Arlana Blue, Levi Richards, Susie Mann and Barbara Benner. It should be noted that a scene between the Doctor (Eberhard Ellis) and his nurse (Margo Sanger) is one of the most exciting I've ever seen without showing any of the usual porn cliches.

Fongaluli (1972)

A strange name for a film that is just as much. The film is about a professor (Eduardo Cemano) conducting research on an island in the Caribbean (the movie was shot on location which certainly gives more visual values) on the crossbreeding of various animal races. So far this film does not seem so weird, but wait a bit. Following a meeting with an Arab he puts his hand on a drug (fongaluli leaves, from which come the title) he will use them on his laboratory animals and this is where the weird begins as one animal responds to this drug and what reaction it is. This animal is actually a lobster who begins to speak and later escapes. Even better the lobster takes the form of a woman (Persephone Black), unfortunately the effects did not last and the professor must travel to different islands to find others leaves of fongaluli if he wants to unite his destiny with the lobster. An adventure that will lead them to islands inhabited by giants, dinosaurs, incestuous and a weird witch. All this with a very unexpected end. Again this film is shot in a more erotic way and countains a lot of funny moments. The majority of the distribution is made up of unknown with the exception of Eduardo Cemano and Ultramax. It should be noted that many more famous actor (Jamie Gillis, Helen Madigan, Valerie Marron, Georgina Spelvin and Marc Stevens) make an appearance in two delirious drug trip scenes.

Madame Zenobia (1973)
I liked it less and despite the fact that this film seems the most popular of the Cemano's movies. It seems to me that the history is less special this time and the sex isn't shown as something fun. Yet the distribution is interesting with Tina Russell, Levi Richards, Jamie Gillis, Andrea True and Davey Jones among others. The film begins well with a very romantic scene between Tina Russell and Jamie Gillis, but the rest is messed with all the forced sex the Tina Russell's character must undergo (I understand that this is part of her therapy, but this doesn't work for me). Maybe the fact that I watched two movies completely different before played a role in my lack of appreciation.

Inside Desiree Cousteau : A comparison

This morning I received the new release of this film by the french company Wild Side Video (same one who released Odyssey: The Ultimate Trip in april). I won't speak of this movie again since I already did in January, but I thought it would be interesting to compare the visual quality of the two versions I now have of this movie. For each screenshot the first one is from the VCX version released in 2002 and the second one is from the new version released by Wild Side last week.

It seems fairly obvious to me which version is the best. Of course there is a good difference in the price since the version of Wild Side Video must be imported from France, but paying more for more quality isn't usually a problem for a real collector. This is available on the french website of Amazon (the website is only in french, but this is not really that much of a problem since all their sites use the same layout).

The dvd countains also an interesting featurette of 30 minutes or so in wich Juliette Anderson, Serena, Sharon Kane, Mike Horner, Richard Pacheco, John Seeman, Bill Margold and Seka talked about this film and Desiree Cousteau.

Jail Bait (1976)

It's been a while I had watched a film from Carter Stevens and this one was in my unwatched pile of film for quite some time already so it was its time. The movie is about Ron Baker (Wade Nichols) who is caught in a bad wedding with June (Sharon Mitchell) and who finds solace with his mistress (Eva Henderson). Which suits him until the day he discovers that he had an attraction for his young niece (Jenny Baxter) and he started drinking more and more after her departure for Italy. During one of his evenings of drinking he sees for the first time Tina (Tina Lynn) a young babysitter at his neighbor's home. From there all goes downhill for Ron since she is only 16 years old ...

As usual it is an exellent Carter Stevens' production who runs the same way a conventional film would do (except that there is more sex of course). The film rests entirely on the shoulders of Wade Nichols and Tina Lynn since they had the only important roles in this film (most of the distribution is non-entity) and they acquit themselves from this task quite well. Of course this is not a surprise for Nicholls as he demonstrated on numerous occasions that he was a good actor, but this is much more surprising from Tina Lynn since it was her only role (Stevens really had a special gift for finding talent). The story despite the fact that it may seem predictable isn't since Ron is not the only one with a scandalous secret.

This one is currently unavailable on DVD (it was released on VHS by Command Video a long time ago), but After Hour Cinema works currently on a second volume in their Carter Stevens Director Series so maybe this one will be in it.

X Rated Ambition : The Traci Lords Story (2003)

A small change in my usual routine, since today I speak of a documentary instead of a movie. I have a few documentaries about the industry, but for the most part they are not really interesting (Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered being the perfect example of this). I came across this one by chance this week doing research on the web. It is as its title indicates about the career of Traci Lords. I do not think it's necessary to say again that Tracy Lords was my first childhood love (of course she does not know) and that I own 51 of her 73 films which is not easy to do, even if they are perfectly legal where I live.

This documentary is a production of Channel 5 a british television channel and is rather short since its only lasts 48 minutes. Obviously you will learn nothing really new if you are familiar with the facts, but it is interesting to see them told by those who experienced them. Indeed it is a series of interviews with those who had known her really well in those years, starting with one of her former classmates followed by Jim South, Suze Randall, Jerome Tanner, Amber Lynn, Ginger Lynn, Michael Carpenter (the director of her first film), Peter North, Tom Byron and a few others.

In addition to the interviews archival footages are used to give life to the documentary. Indeed many of the magazines in which she posed and many excerpts from her films (most of them in poor shape) are presented. Obviously Traci Lords did not participate in it (which would have been incredible), but to counterbalance this old audio interviews are included in the documentary. I do not think that it is available on DVD since I clearly watched a television recording (we even see the beginning of the advertising), but it isn't that hard to find.

Night Trips (1989)

If you are looking for the perfect blend between hardcore sex and eroticism look no further, this film is exactly what you are searching for. If this is not what you want, well there's always Please Rape my wife 5 or Dirty Slut Debutante 75 or other shit like this to please you. This film is the perfect movie to watch in couple if your better half is not too interested in adult movies because there are anything extreme or shocking in this film. In fact it is a typical Andrew Blake's production : beautiful cinematography, great editing, beautiful people, great soundtrack and beautiful scenery. Although the story is not really the point of this movie, but it is not really important to appreciate it. This is about a woman (Tori Welles) who is "haunted" by erotic dreams repeatedly and consults two psychiatrists (Randy Spears and Porsche Lynn) to help her. For this they use a machine that can show her dreams on the screen. The history is as simple as that.

As I said this is how this movie was filmed that makes its beauty. We go from color images to black and white images to sepia images which gives to the whole an unreal and highly artistic look. Also very little dialogue is used in this film (Randy Spears and Porsche Lynn speak a little and Tori Wells said a few words occasionally), in fact we can not even hear the actors while they had sex (this is where the excellent soundtrack shows its importance). I do not really have much to write except that I highly recommend this film that features in addition to the names already mentioned Victoria Paris, Peter North, Jamie Summers, Tanya deVries, Ray Victory and Marc De Bruin .

Uncontrolable Urge (1976)

The version I have is not the original that lasts 6 extra minutes according to the Internet Adult Film Database (I wonder what was cut?). Despite this it's still an enjoyable comedy. This film is a spy story (but I'm very generous) where a Russian organization (the accent seems to indicate it, but maybe they are Hungarian) led by Hata Mari (Jennifer Welles) who tries to steal a formula discovered by Daddy Sawbucks (Neil Flanagan) to convert waste into oil. In order to approach Sawbucks the organization decides to adopt Sammy (Rocky Millstone) who is the lost son of Sawbucks.

For a rare occasion I begin with the negative. Rocky Millstone is the worst actors I've ever seen. He does not sound natural, he has a lot of trouble with his text, he is annoying and he even has difficulty getting an erection. Definitely an odd choice to be the leading character in an adult film (he is also in Through the Looking Glass and Maraschino Cherry, but I am unable to recall his performance). That's all I really found negative to this film.

The bad acting of Millstone is amply compensated by the performance of Jennifer Welles, although I must confess that I prefer the movies that she made early in her career under the name Lisa Duran (Career Bed is certainly in my opinion one of the best New York independent film of the sixties). hearing Jennifer Welles, Jamie Gillis, CJ Laing and Andrea True talking with an Eastern European accent worth the price of admission alone (they even managed to keep it for almost the entire duration of the film). The beginning where Sammy does his farewell to the employees of the orphanage (Nikki Hilton, Helen Madigan and Jennifer Jordan) is just as fun with the extreme patriotism of Little Sammy. In fact this film is almost a love letter to the American way of life. Add to the ensemble an effective script from Ron Wertheim (not necessarily a surprise when you know he also wrote Through the Looking Glass one of the best films ever made all genre included ) and you have a real winner. One last thing : you will get the expression Leapin` lizards! stick into your mind after your watching.

The movie was released in its uncut version by Alpha Blue Archive (no idea of the quality, since I just found it 2 minutes ago) in a triple features dvd with Little Blue Box and Sexualist that you can also get at Adult DVD Marketplace.

Corruption (1983)

Excellent production of Roger Michael Watkins, who is about the business world, the search for power and the sale of the soul. Obviously this is not your standard adult film production, but much more an arthouse production (which is not so surprising considering who is the director). We have a sense of unreality and mystery while watching the movie, which is obviously normal, with the Faustian theme of it. We spend the majority of the film in an underground world that is sordid, dirty and loveless. The introduction of this one at the beginning with the betrayal of the partner (George Payne) of Williams (Jamie Gillies) is very well managed with just the right amount of mystery. This world without emotions has something for everyone be it domination, submission, lesbianism or even necrophilia. Of course there is also a brighter side to the film with the relationship that Williams has with his wife (Tiffany Clark) and his mistress (Vanessa del Rio). I can not write too much without revealing too many details because this film has its share of mystery and surprise that must be kept secret, but trust me this film is excellent. The film is greatly helped by the excellent performance of Bobby Astyr who plays Larry the mysterious brother of Williams. In addition to the names already mentioned the distribution includes among others Michael Gaunt, Kelly Nichols, Tanya Lawson, Tish Ambrose and Marilyn Gee. The film includes also an excellent instrumental and classic soundtrack that brings a lot to the mysterious mood of this production.

Summarized simply I can say that this is another masterpiece of Roger Michael Watkins, who is unfortunately not available on DVD (like most of his work) which is almost criminal considering that so many weak eighties productions are the dvd market.

Passion Pit (1985)

This one has a special place in my memories as this is the first adult film I've seen. For the 15 year old kids that I was it was love at first sight and a love that always last 25 years later. The funniest is that it took me years to finally learn the title since I had watched it on a VHS tape containing six hours of anything. But with a general description and a little help from some friends I eventually find it out and get it. This wasn't that easy for the reason that everybody knows ...

This film is easy to resume in one short sentence : a night at the drive-in. So no big complicated scenario in this film, which is a good thing since my version is dubed in french (even if it is my main language, the over the top dubbing of the French of France fall on my nerves by its ridicule). The vast majority of the film is composed of sex scenes, but this does not seem endless because of the way the movie was edited. Indeed the film goes from a first scene to another one and then back to the first and so on. All this is rather effective and arousing (the only exception being the one between Justice Howard and Jon Martin who is quite boring compare to the rest). The film also includes an excellent cast with Traci Lords, Stacey Donovan, Patty Cakes, Little Oral Annie, Lili Marlene, Ashley Wells, John Holmes (despite the fact it's obvious that he was already sick), Dan T. Mann, Don Fernando and some others. It was also filmed in a real drive-in wich adds a nice touch of realism, without mentioning the superb night cinematography job by Guido Williams (oddly it was his only credit as director of photography). Another interesting point is the soundtrack that gives the impression of listening to a jukebox in continues (to the point you want the boring dubbers to shut the fuck up), indeed you can hear Billy Joel, Allan Parsons Project, ABBA, Linda Rondstadt, Paul McCartney, The Associations and many others.

At first I was not sure to mention the place to obtain the film as I usually do since Traci Lords is in it, but as my blog is read also in countries where they are completly legal I choose to do. This film was released by Alpha France like many of her other films in a 3 movies dvd set, they are only in french without any subtitles but the quality is quite good. You can buy it here, but be warned that it's really complicated .

Jack 'n Jill 2 (1984)

I wrote about the first Jack'n Jill in the month of February and you can read it here if you missed it originally. In this second part, which takes place four years later things have changed for our couple. They are more and more absorbed by their work (Jill is now a psychologist) and goes away from each other little by little. The games that put the spice in their marriage during the first year of it doesn't seem to work anymore. Just look the jaded attitude of Jill at the surprise that Jack has prepared for their fifth anniversary (a surprise which is not what it seems) or the total lack of interest from Jill during a three couples orgy. The breaking point will arrive during an exchange of couple between them and the Jack boss' couple. The couple split after this one and each of them goes in seperate ways. But are Jack and Jill permanently separated? You should watch the movie to find out ...

I grant you the synopsis may seem depressing as I've written it, but it's still a comedy. The Jack's surprise that starts the film, the too great enthusiasm of one of the participants (Taija Rae in a great performance both artistically and physically) during the orgy or a secret restaurant meeting are all moments when we smile. Of course there is the moment of the separation, which is not very happy, although everything is done cordially but it's a bit too close to reality. There is also the fact that Jill sinks in the alcohol after the break-up that makes it hard to watch when we know what was happening in the life of Samantha Fox during this period (but that gives us one of the weirder scene I've seen mixing oral sex and regular sex). Another good performance from Jack Wrangler and Samantha Fox in the first role and from Jerry Butler, Taija Rae and Johnny Buck. Not as good as the original, this film is still a notch above most of the production of this era since we talk about a Chuck Vincent's movie.

This film seems to be out of print. Excalibur Films always have the dvd in their inventory but not in stock and as it seems not available on the VCA website there is little chance to get it through them. But you know already that I can help you better than that. I found it on a website that I won't name or link since I don't trust a website who sells a title 29$ but charge more shipping for the case and the cover art. The way to get it is easier than that and it's Adult DVD Marketplace who is always a good place to check to find adult materials for a good price.

The Outlaw (1989)

One of the Fred Lincoln's film starring Tori Welles, on top of this one I've watched Head Lock and Trouble. Among these three this one is certainly the most interesting, not because it is a great film (we're still in '89) but because it is the perfect vehicle for Tori Welles. The story is rather simple since it's a trio of bikers and their journey, simple but effective (but it doesn't last long). The film starts strong with our trio (the others being Eric Price and Scott Irish) who stops in the yard of a house for a threesome at the great displeasure (not that much) of the owner who looks the action trought the window (when the fun is over Tori knocks at the door to be paid for the show). Next step They stop to force a young couple to have a relationship outside of their camper (Todd Alexander, who plays the young man is not very impressive, I guess he has improved since his career ended in 2002). From there the script is thrown away since the group moved into a house and stays there. The result is a series of sex scene after another that are either interesting (those with Tori Welles), too mechanical (those with Tami Monroe) or endless (Tami Monroe and Eric Price). As I said it's a vehicle for Tori Welles where we can see what a great star she was. Of course, like many I was one of her big fans. The sexual energy she exuded, her "I don't give a fuck" attitude, the way she dominated her partners and of course her bad girl side had everything to please the nineteen years old young man I was at the time. You can imagine the shock I had eight years after while watching The Private Diary of Tori Welles and noting how the drugs had destroyed what I like in her. But it looks like she is doing better now... Not a great as such but a required watching for any fans of Tori Welles.

This film is available through Adult DVD Marketplace for a very low price, so it isn't a really big risk to take.

Fringe Benefits (1973)

Nice little film from the early seventies that I found while I was looking for some interesting things to watch by video on demand. It has an interesting distribution with Eric Edwards, Georgina Spelvin, Darby Lloyd Rains, Cindy West, Michelle Magazine, Kevin Andre, Susie Mathews (her only film, but I wonder if she was related to Paul Matthews, one of the first actor of this genre), Jeffrey Hurst and Harding Harrison (an actor who frequently appears in non-sexual role in the production of this period). The story begins at a clinic for sexual disorders where Harry (Eric Edwards) consults a doctor (Georgina Spelvin) because he can no longer get an erection. During the consultation we learn that he was responsible for a benefits program within the company where he worked to prevent the arrival of an union. What benefits? Sexual benefits of course. He was performing as a stud to satisfy the female employees (Susie Mathews, Cindy West and Barbara Cole). The program works fine until the day he decided to apply it also to the personal secretary (Darby Lloyd Rains) of the big boss (Harding Harrison). Of course he doesn't appreciated it too much when he catch them, wich he will exhibit by sacking Harry. The doctor find that it's the reason of Harry's problem and that will be cured by a treatment with a new machine created by the Dr. Cherrypopper (Kevin Andre), but there will be a serious problem. What problem? Sorry I've said enough ...

As I said it's an enjoyable film to watch. A good talented acting male cast with Eric Edwards (for the fans, he is almost in all the scenes), Kevin Andre and Harding Harrison. A good looking female cast with many one or two timers. A lot of funny moments, but I must confess that it's the juvenile type of humor (but thank God not the "pee, poo, fart" type).

Blonde Ambition (1980)

I hope that nobody will object to the fact that I speak for the third time in a week of a film marketed by Video-X-Pix. But since this is the latest release in their Platinum Elite Collection and as there are some interest for this title I had to talk about it (there is also the fact that I wanted to watch it immediately). This is the last heterosexual hardcore production from the Ameros brothers (after this film Jon directed seven gay movies under the alias Francis Ellie and Lem has done the comedy R.S.V.P. for the Playboy channel). Obviously as this is a production of the Amero brothers we must expect something different and different it is.

This is the story of two sisters (Suzy Mandel and Dory Devon) who have a huge success on the New York scene and we'll find out how their story began. It begins in a remote corner of the state of Wyoming where they give a more than bad burlesque act. Chance would have it they meet Stephen Carlisle III (Eric Edwards) and his chauffeur (Robert Kerman) who will lead them to New York where they have a big contract (oddly Carlisle appears to have enjoyed the spectacle). Big surprise on the arrival in the Big Apple as the club where they were supposed to appear doesn't exist, but Carlisle will offer them to live in his apartment until they find work. It is this research of works we will follow for the rest of this film. A quest that will move from acting in poor quality loops to a big budget film (one of the highlights of the movie thanks to the performance of Jamie Gillies) and finally the reaching of the big stage success. Added an imbroglio with an high prices brooch, a transvestites show in a gay bar, a flat on an ice rink and dance numbers worthy of Broadway at the ensemble and you get an odd film of high caliber.

What makes this movie work is the actors' performance. Suzy Mandel plays the blonde not too bright so wonderfully, Molly Malone is excellent in the role of a rich English socialite, Jamie as a movie director in a non sexual role gives a good performance and Eric Edwards, Wade Nichols, Kurt Mann, David Morris and Robert Kerman are reliable like they always are. This film was made for thirty thousands dollar only and this quite surprising since the production value on the screen make it looks like a much higher budgeted production than that.

As most people probably already knows a body double was used for the hardcore scenes of Suzy Mandel and this is quite obvious (the image quality certainly plays a role in this). But the most bizarre is the voice of George Payne that was dubbed (not to mention his tan that appears and disappears throughout his performance). Another fact that I learned in the notes from Benson Hurst is that the role of Candy Kane (played by Dory Devon) was to be played originally by Heather Deeley. Maybe the name tell you nothing but she was the star of Diversions an excellent and weird british hardcore film that I highly recommand. I have nothing against Miss Devon and her performance, but the film would have been even better with Heather Deely.

The extras on the DVD are at the same level than what we got usually in the Platinum Collection. Jon Amero gives a commentary track really informative about the history of this film, the softcore version included is as good as the main movie (contrary at those included with the Raincoat Theatre released). My only deception is the commentary from Jamie Gillies that countains a lot of dead air and is not one of his best. It would have been better to have a serie of interviews with the cast members like Gillies, Eric Edwards, Kurt Mann or Suzy Mandel.

Another strong recommandation available as usual on the website of Video-X-Pix. If you are fast enough the dvd is at a special price untill the june first.

Everytime that I write about a film by Gerard Damiano I feel like repeating myself, but it is depressing to know that the first film that most casual viewer associate with him is Deep Throat. He had done so much better than this poor comedy and this film is a perfect example of this. It follows more or less the concept he used the previous year with Odyssey: The Ultimate Trip that I've reviewed last month. What I mean is that the movie uses a series of short story (six in all) to illustrate the concept of true love between real people. It is obvious that with six stories making up a 74 minute film some might think it's too short. I can assure you that it isn't the case at all (in fact how many times have I read that the scenes in modern movies are endless?). Of course some are short, but they capture perfectly the story they present (Goodbye the second story is a good example of this, but this story is the most erotic and sensual of this film). To demonstrate a greater sense of reality some stories don't even show a cum shot as it happens internally as it does in real life. Of course it is possible that some could see this as an heresy but it isn't my case at all. This film also benefits from a perfect cinematography due to the work of João Fernandes (the regular director of photography of Damiano) and James McCalmont who did the same work for Odyssey: The Ultimate Trip. The film also use a very great instrumental score who brings a lot to the erotic mood. The cast include Serena, Jamie Gillies, Christie Ford (one of the most underated actresses of this era), Robert Kerman, Eric Edwards, Kasey Rodgers, Kelly Green, Samantha Fox, Gerard Damiano (for a real role this time not just a short cameo), Heather Young, Bobby Astyr and many others. I rate this film easily equal to Odyssey: The Ultimate Trip if not better.

The Blue Balloon (1971)

Definitely not the feel-good movie of the year or of the year 1973 to be precise (it was released only in 73). What we have here is comparable to Thriller A Cruel Picture if if was shot as an hardcore film (of course Thriller has insert but it is not the same thing). The story is similar to Thriller and it consist as the abduction of a young girl (Lisbeth Olsen) to be forced to serve as a prostitute after she accompanied her fiancee (Bent Rohweder) at the airport. That's where the comparisons stops since this Danish production is pretty cheap looking. It looks like you are watching an Avon' productions and certainly not one of their best (Appointment With Agony looks like an high budget production compared to this film). The fact that the film is dubbed in English does not help either, since the story seems to be full of holes (why the photography? How she became a street prostitute?). The material used is also in poor condition (I've seen worse, but the sound is often hard to hear), but that's understandable since it is not the kind of production on which a company spend thousands of dollars for the restoration. I do have to recognize on the other side that I was surprise by the end since I was waiting for a very violent conclusion and that this is not the worst movie made in Denmark I 've watched (that dubious honor belongs to Animal Farm who was quite a depressing, disgusting and traumatizing experience).

This film is included in The Grindhouse Hostage Collection which also includes Play Only With Me and Virgin Hostage available through the website of After Hour Cinema and also on Amazon (I don't know why, but every time I find an hardcore movie available for sale on their U.S. site I am completely surprised).

MisBehavin' (1978)

I own this movie for a while, but as I do often I forgot it after placing it with my many unwatched movies. As luck would have it I recently saw its trailer on another DVD and it reminded me that I have this movie. The premise of this film is a bet between the devil (Dick Gallan) and an angel (Kurt Mann), which is whether Rita (Leslie Bovee) will choose between love or money for her upcoming marriage. This film has all the ingredients that I like when I watch a production for adults: an excellent script that fully integrates the sex scenes with the story, characters who talk directly to the viewers, many funny moments, great artistic performances and an unpredictable story. In addition to the names already mentioned the cast include among others Gloria Leonard (Rita's best friend), Sonny Landham, Eric Edwards, Arcadia Lake (she has never been more lovelly that she is in this film), Mark Valentine (a rejected lover who is one of the running gag), Molly Malone (the second running gag) and Eric Stanhope (the presenter in Rollerbabies who plays a rich suitor). As usual an excellent production of Chuck Vincent that I highly recommend. What will be the choice of Rita? The Love or the money? Do not count on me to reveal it.You will have to watch the film to discover her choice and the bet winner...

A Rising Star (1991)

A rare detour in the nineties (hard to believe that it's been 19 years already, that makes me feel old). We can not say that these years have been the best one in the industry, but some company like Vivid and Wicked have produced what could still be called movies (nothing like those I speak normally off, but certainly a notch above the rest produced in this period). This movie is a movie in a movie since it relates the production of a film. It would have been interesting, but like most productions of those years the scenes are too long, too repetitive, too numerous and somewhat boring. Only two scenes stand out of the lot and are a little bit interesting. The one between Jamie Leigh and Tony Montana (but it's more the fact they makie it on an Harley Davidson that makes it interesting) and the one between Sandra Scream and Woody Long who shows the difficulties present while filming a scene (problems to maintain his erection for the man, the numerous interruptions and the constant change of position when you are into it).

But as already mentioned it's a missed opportunity, since 90% of this film is composed of sex scenes (some appreciate this, but this is not my case and I see those films more like masturbation material than anything else). The sad thing is that with Ashlyn Gere in the distribution it has a real actress, why not use her talent then?

Here Comes the Bride (1978)

Tom (David Morris) and Rhonda (Samantha Fox) who just got married recall themselves some personal memories of their courtship. That does not sound very original on paper (or rather on the screen), but there is a single small detail in their relationship: Rhonda was a virgin and wanted to remain one until their marriage. Of course she is no more a virgin that I am an Ivorians, but this is what she will make Tom believe at their first encounters. It becomes interesting from this point to pass from the offended virgin games to the less virginal games. An encounter at the drive-in with a perfect stranger (Joey Silvera) after she had just rejected the advances of her boyfriend is particularly successful with a mixture of the two lovers scenes (Tom masturbating in the car and Rhonda giving a blow job at the unknown man). It is therefore a movie rather enjoyable if you ignore the orgy that takes place during the bridal shower scene (I find these scenes rarely erotic, too many people to stay focused). The most amusing is the fact that Tom will never know that Rhonda is no longer and never was a virgin (naive enough of him to not notice the lack of resistance during their wedding night). The film has an interesting distribution in the supporting roles with Clea Carson, Heather Young, Paula Morton, Roger Caine and David Christopher, among others. Without forgetting a soundtrack filled with some great disco music.

One last thing : David Morris really looks like the twin brother of Tony Danza. Of course he isn't don't start any rumours...

Tower of Power (1985)

A short visit in the world of the rich and powerful with this production of Gary Graver. A traitor is hidden among the directors of the Tower Company and this traitor had revealed some secrets to a rival company. Fred Kingsley (Robert Kerman) the majority owner announces the news during a special meeting of the board of directors and gives himself a week to find the culprit. Who is it? Claudia (Annette Haven) who owns 20% of the company, Hugh (John Leslie), George (Harry Reems) or his wife (Janey Robbins). On paper it sounds like a good scenario, but it is not expanded more than necessary and the revelation of the traitor's name comes without surprise and really fast at the end. This does not mean I did not like the movie because it's hard not to like a Gary Graver's film. As usual his direction is perfect, all is well filmed and the pace is efficient (the mixture of the scenes between Robert Kerman and Janey Robbins with the one between Annette Haven and Herschel Savage who takes place at the same time is a very good example of this.). In addition of the names already mentioned Angel (I think you already know I love this actress) and Sharon Kelly (not using the Colleen Brennan alias as she usually does) are also part of the film distribution. Even with my reservation about the plot this film is a recommandation and a good exemple of how to edit a movie when a lot of sex scenes are present.

Screw on the Screen (1975)

This is not a comment I often do when I talk about an adult film, but what a waste of my time ... I have no difficulty to imagine the speed at which the room emptied when the film appeared. It is simply annoying and pretentious. This is a representation of Screw magazine on the screen and if the magazine is what you see on the screen (which is surely the case since Jim Buckley and Al Goldstein's are the producers of it), I must really thank heaven for having been a reader of High Society. We go from not-funny skits to the sad burlesque act of Honeysuckle Divine (her act blewing-off matches, pitching powder, doing sounds, and much more with her vagina. Believe me this is more interesting to read than watching) to an old loop from the fifties to a man who is getting a tattoo on his penis... Quite enjoyable and exciting as a program right? But I must welcome the inclusion in the film of a scene of fellatio between men (this certainly scares away the last remaining spectators in the theatre). The only saving grace of this film is the end (and no it is not the end credits) with a talk show segment in which Jody Maxwell demonstrates her oral skills. As you can easilly guess this movie isn't available on dvd, VXP talked about releasing it since some time. But unless Steve announce that it will come with an autographed picture of Jody Maxwell (an interview will do also) or that the four missing minutes are awesome, I'm sure not interested to rewatch that again...

Odyssey: The Ultimate Trip (1977)

Gerard Damiano was certainly one of the most talented director of this period, if not the most talented. But most of what is on the market does not do him justice, since more often than not we are entitled to vhs transfert on dvd. It is sad to say, but the lovers of cinema that we are is a minority and the U.S. industry isn't too concerned with of us (of course there are exceptions, but they can count on the fingers of one hand). So I turned to Europe to get this film which is part of a series of classic movies that will be released by the french label Wild Side Video throughout this year.

This film is an anthology in three parts but there are no apparent links between each story and each of them is not of equal interest. The anthology starts well with The Beginning about a couple (Robert Kerman and Nancy Dare) whose union is at its breaking point, what we quickly realize in the discussions between them and another couple (Michael Gaunt and Crystal Sync) from the beginning. Following the advice of his friend, the husband will visit Madame Zenobia to help his marriage. What happens next is a series of fantastic images and superb staging (the mixing of genders scene between Sharon Mitchell and Tony Mansfield is particularly successful), all this accompanied by a soundtrack of classical and romantic music until the grand finale.

The second part entitled The Middle is for me the least interesting and presents a series of meeting between a psychiatrist (Sue Bright) and her clients (Samantha Fox, Gloria Leonard and Linda Maidstone). The scenes are rather short and not sufficiently developed. Personally I believe that this segment would have benefited from focusing solely on the culpability issues of the character played by Samantha Fox.

The last and most successful part entitled The End follows Nicole (Susan McBain), a New York model from one job to another. This story is depressing and ends on a sombre note (hence the film title). The mix between the outdoor scenes that expresses the optimism (superb old New York footage by the way) and the apartment of Nicole who represents everything that goes wrong in her life is particularly successful.

Between these times we live in the imagination of Nicole as a spectator of her fantasies. These are a beautifully filmed orgy (usually I do not like them really) with Wade Nichols, Vanessa del Rio and CJ Laing among others as participants and a romantic scene between Nicole and an unknown man (Peter Andrews).

A high quality Gerard Damiano's production (like Portrait, Devil in Miss Jones and The Story of Joanna) that I highly recommend despite the fact that you need to import it from France and at a not so low price if we count the shipping cost.

China Sisters (1978)

A film that I consider to be medium. Not a bad film as such, but nothing to be considered a classic. This is a film of Anthony Spinelli who usually is a good director (I even appreciate his DTV productions such as the Catalina Five-O serie), but the format used didn't succeed to keep my interest. The story is narrated by a woman (Vicky Lyon) who dictates her memoirs on tape. Her memories are quite interesting as it includes an incestuous relationship with her younger sister (China Leigh), the seduction of one of her underage students (Don Fernando) and a threesome between the two sisters and Jack Wrangler that reminds me the most arousing scene in Misty Beethoven (a little bit cheaper, but at least Jack Wrangler doesn't use a stunt double). John Leslie also appeared in the film in a rather bizarre scene thank you. As I said an okay film but not really an essantial classic. Doesn't really worth the trouble of searching to find it.

This film like most of the Essex Video's Catalog is not available on DVD.

Burlexxx (1984)

Speaking of buslesque so much in my previous entry made me want to watch this movie. In fact it's hard to present it as a film since it's mostly a 80 minutes burlesque show. Of course it does not compare to those you could have seen through the Something Weird Video dvds, but it has the same quality and the same defects they have. I'll start with the positive: the sketchs are fun and contain the usual innuendo of this kind of humor (the first one with Bobby Astyr really made me laugh, but Astyr is a funny guy), the penises wrestling match between Astyr and Ron Jeremy is funny and sure bizarre and the Samantha Fox's striptease act is nice although a little short. But I could do without Jeremy as the master of ceremony (I don't find him funny at all), the recreation of the Lili St. Cyr's act (the on-stage bubble bath) by Dixi Dew and the George Payne's two scenes taking place during the spectacle which has the effect of breaking the flow of the burlesque show. A pleasant entertainment, but nothing particularly memorable ... Oh yes I forgot. Like all good burlesque show there is a female impersonator ...

This film is not currently available on dvd.

The Divine Obsession (1976)

This film is the last production for adults directed by Lloyd Kaufman. The name sounds probably familliar to you since he is the president and co-owner of Troma Studios. Like many other famous directors Kauffman worked in the flourishing New York adult industry during the seventies, he directed two other films (The New Comers and Sweet & Sour) in addition to this, he was producer and He was also a director of photography. This film is rather interesting and the best way to describe it is that it's about a burlesque star, who reminds herself the events of her life since her arrival at New York during her last performance. The film mood constantly alternates between comedy and drama, we must admit that the life of our heroine (April Sumers) has not been easy. She was a loops actress, an erotic photography model, a first rate pornographic film star, a luxury call girl, a street prostitute and a burlesque dancer. There are many moments when you find yourself laughing while watching, which is an evident quality proof of this production (another is to not see the 90 minutes of the film pass). It is also interesting to note the subtle messages that Kauffman passes on the industry (I know that subtle is not really the first word that comes to mind when one thinks of Lloyd Kaufman). A film that is quite difficult to find, but worth the efforts to find it. You will find several familiar faces like Teri Hall, Bree Anthony, Alan Marlowe, Levi Richards and Eric Edwards among others in this film. If you are looking for some odd moment this film will also meet your expectations with an enema sceances with cream and a new and messy way to use the pastries.

As mentioned earlier this film is rather rare and therefore not available on dvd, it was by cons released on VHS by Alpha Blue Archives some years ago. I am also looking for Sweet & Sour and The New Comers, the two other films directed by Kauffman so if someone could directed me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Sexual Customs of Scandinavia (1972)

With this film we are really in the beginnings of the adult cinema. So the good old method of the doctor / narrator is used (here this is a psychologist) to demonstrate the moral values and the good taste of the film. To my amazement this is the case, this film discusses the issue seriously, is instructive and certainly less boring than The Language of Love (a swedish film included in a british boxset of Christina Lindberg's movies). Of course the whole aspect "this film is Scandinavian" is entirely false since the doctor that we see frequently helping the clients referred by the psychologist is Daniel Harin (he also plays a doctor in The Debauchers) and among those clients we can recognize Tina Russell, Jean Parker, Jason Russell and Shaun Costello hiding behind aliases sounding vaguely Scandinavian (Judy Gringer, Jan Rinkberg, Sven Stroebye and Neil Almebor). The film is built around three segments representing three cases of clients with sexual dysfunctions who consulted the psychologist (Ingrid Petersen, probably an alias but I have no idea of who she is) and the solution of their problems. The fourth and final segments of the film is different because it is the visual representation of some sexual positions demonstrated by a couple (Dolly Sharp and Jamie Gillis). It is also interesting to note that Sidney Knight the director of this movie will direct The Debauchers and The Morning After (two films that I enjoy and highly recommend) after this pseudo-documentary. Strangely, despite the obvious talent of Knight as a director those two movies will be his lasts (unless we count Rings of Passion for which he was the editor).

This film is available as a stand alone dvd or in a four movies set (I already mentioned this one previously and it's the option I recommend) through the Video-X-Pix website. The DVD also contains the trailers of Misbeavin' which seems interesting and Hot Honey a Bill Lustig's film I appreciate (I will probably talk more about this one later this year).

Cheryl Hansson : Cover Girl (1981)

Usually for me a film by Alex De Renzy is either extraordinary or poor. I like his real movies like Pretty Peaches, Babyface or Femmes de Sade, but I'm not a big fan of his loop carrier like Dirty Girls and Wild Things. The good news, at least for me is that Cheryl Hansson is a movie. From the poster you might think it's a film about the fashion world, but it's not really the case. It is more a detective story about the murder of a model's agent. Another thing Cherryl Hansson is not really the main personage of this film, this title belongs to Nicole Black, who plays one of the top models and steals the show at each of her appearances on the screen. The crime is discover when Cheryl Hansson goes at the agent office to sign a contract and decides to use her charms to convince him to sign her, but what she ignores is that the agent is dead and that she interacts with her murderer. She is the only one who can identify the murderer, a difficult task since she has never seen his face but only a tattoo he wears on the top of his thigh. She will therefore assist the inspector Horn (Joey Silvera) in its investigation. As the film revolves around the fashion world we get many photo shooting session scenes and training sceances at the gym. I really enjoyed the scenes in the gym since Herschel Savage plays the handyman of the place and plays the role in a rather amusing way. Without mentionning that the best scene of the film takes place at this location when Nicole Black catch Herschel Savage spying on her while she is in the bath. Without being a great detective story the film is still enjoyable to listen to because of the "watching a movie" feeling we got. Like all the Alex De Renzy 's films the cast is not credited (except Cheryl Hansson), but many familiar faces made their appearance in the film. In addition to those already mentioned, you will easily recognize John Leslie, Paul Thomas, Michael Morrison, Kathy Harcourt, Phaery Burd, Misty Regan, Starr Wood and the murderer that I obviously did not name.

Unfortunately like many other titles distributed by Essex Video this movie is not available on dvd. I really wonder who owns their catalog which includes many good film like Baby Rosemary, The Joy of Letting Go, Scandalous Simone or Exposed.

The Defiance of Good (1974)

I wanted to watch this movie since I read about it in The Other Hollywood: The Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Film Industry and the many good recommendations that I received about this film. For a rare occasion despite the high expectations that I had the film worked perfectly with me. I can't say anything else except that I place this one in the same category that The Opening of Misty Beethoven, Through the Looking Glass and The Taking of Christina are in which for me are movie masterpieces. What makes the greatness of this film is how the subject is treated, I don't think I make a big revelation by stating that this film deals with the sadomasochism. This theme appears frequently in many works of the seventies, but usually there is nothing erotic in what we see on the screen (which is not a critic as I like these movies occasionally). The act of gradually inserting this element in the scenario is what allows us to immerse ourselves gradually in the story and identify ourselves with the character of Cathy (Jean Jennings). From the beginning we feel that there is a problem in the familly dynamics with a mother who is a strict religious fanatic and a father who has no backbone (what is inferred because the family is not really referenced ). The problems started when Cathy was surprised by her mother while using cocaine with a friend (Day Jason) and she will be placed under obvervation in a clinic for a fortnight (which is certainly an overreaction but this is another story). This clinic is especially strange either with the inmates (the scene in the community hall is particularly weird and creepy) or its employees. So when after a night rape by a trio of inmates (Alan Marlowe, Jason Russell and someone I don't know), Cathy left the clinic and is transferred at the Dr. Gabriel's (Fred Lincoln) private clinic we breathe a little and we are confident that everything will now be for the best. It will not take long to realize that we are in the wrong and the worst is yet to come for Cathy. I will say no more except that more surprises are in store for the viewer... I must confess that I was impressed by the performance of Jean Jennings (I don't particularly like her usually since her voice irritates me), but for a first real role this is a tour de force. Fred Lincoln's gives a performance all in nuance and I must admit that it's his best performance I have seen. Without major role Jamie Gillis, Sonny Landham, Day Jason, Turk Turpin (he is the creepy nurse from the first clinic) and a multitude of characters actors (except for Sandi Foxx and Mark Stevens I know none of the others) give also good performance. This is really an important work very well written and acted with a particullary good musical score composed by Jack Justis (he is responsible for the score of many Joe Sarno's films).

An highly recommended film that you can buy on the Excalibur Films website or on AdultDVDMarketplace.

Rollerbabies (1976)

As usual with the films of Carter Stevens we have another winner with this one. The story is set in a future where the sexual relations has become illegal (not a really funny future if you ask me), but where by cons pornography is present on television and endorsed by the government. The scenario is not very complicated, but two scenes certainly compensate for the simplistic story. Firstly the one between Alan Marlowe and Terri Hall probably the most messy fellatio I've ever seen with a huge amount of yogurt and whipped cream used. But the second is probably what made the movie for me... the telepathic fellatio. I have no idea how this was done, but it's certainly the strangest thing I ever saw in an adult movie. Strangely the roller skates sex which is the main point of the movie did nothing for me. It is also interesting to see Susan McBain in a too rare starring role, another film in which she is the star is Candy lips but I sure not recommend this film in any way. If you have watched The Opening of Misty Beethoven the music will be certainly familiar to your ears and it will be hard to not think at it while watching.

This film is available on the website of Barely Used DVD for a very low price. But I sure hope to see it released by After Hour Cinema on another collection of Carter Stevens' films (the two they did at this date are top quality).

Let's Talk Sex (1983)

The film begins rather well with a nurse (Bridgette Monet) returning from her day's work through an area that can easily be described as somewhat recommendable. After a few encounters with drunks and shady characters (which includes Paul Vatelli the director of this movie), she finally reach her home safely. Of course this does not last long since an intruder wait for her in the shadows and who is the intruder? David Cannon which of course was not really difficult to guess since they were a couple at that time and they turned exclusively together (to the best of my knowledge they are still married). So it seems we are gone for a crime thriller ride wich I would have liked, but after this scene we see that Cannon is on the phone with an erotic call service. This gives us an uneven mix of scenes using the customers calling the hotline to connect them. Not that the film is bad either, but after a good introduction like that I was sure disappointed. This film is one of the adult film in which appear Kitten Natividad (Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens) in a very average scene with Becky Savage. Equally interesting is the fact that this is the first film of Laurien Wilde (she is great in Alexandra a movie that I strongly recommend) who had died way too early the following year in an automobile accident. Also this is one of the first film of Julia Parton who has been for several years the reason why I bought High Society every month since she was the magazine editor after Gloria Leonard. This film is also one of the first Tom Biron's movie and it's amazing how he may seem young, it looks like he is 16 years old and, of course, he plays a young teenager who use the telephone service to help him to lose his virginity with his girlfriend (Melanie Scott). This film is not the greatest ever made, but for the price it is an easy recommendation.

Tongue (1976)

One of the few adult blacksploitation films I own and it had something in common with Lialeh (the only other one that I own) : a good soundtrack. A chance since it is certainly not a memorable film for anything. I had particularly a great difficulty to believe that this film was made in 1976, seriously Brigitte Maier is the star of Sensations (one of the best adult production ever made) in 1975 and the following year appears in a production with zero budget... Not to mention that her performance is more than ordinary and without much enthusiasm. Which is a shame as she appears in at least the three quarters of this film. In fact the poor visual quality of the film didn't help, most of the time we can discern nothing but the color of the participants. I had great difficulty to keep my interest in the history or the action while I watched the film. The synopsis seemed interesting at first sight, but the lack of budget is really too obvious. Only at the end we can see that the director had some talent with the scene where Quasi surprises his wife and her lover on the beach.

Sleepy Head (1973)

First hardcore movie directed by Joe Sarno which I must confess is one of my favorite director with Radley Metzger all genre mingled. So it is not easy to write that I have not really appreciated the movie. It starts well with the presentation of Bernice (Georgina Spelvin) who is a writer with a sexual life problem (in fact she doesn't had one) which occasionally meets a mysterious personage (Davey Jones) in the park near where she lives. Moreover Bernice shares her apartment with her sister (Tina Russell) who is a religious fanatic. The elements are all present for another successful Sarno's movie. But everything deteriorates rapidly with the introduction of Judith Hamilton in this film, from this moment one has the impression that the whole film is about her. Judith Hamilton is not, to be honest, a great actress (not to mention that she does absolutely nothing to me sexually speaking) and with all the talent in this distribution it is hard to understand. Without forgetting the precence of an endless orgy at the end of the movie (it lasts more than 30 minutes) who is very boring, even though Tina Russell is in it. It seems that Joe Sarno was not interest more than necessary when making this film, at least that's what I perceive. A disappointing first try, but Sarno will do better later with A Touch of Genie and The Trouble with Young Stuff among others ...

Heavenly Desires (1979)

After my long absence of almost 2 weeks I decided to come back with a comedy of Jourdan Alexander (Little Orphan Dusty) starring Seka and Serena. So in this movie they are two ghosts recruited by the devil (Johnnie Keyes) to help two students (Hillary Summers and Dani Williams) to lose their virginity. If they succeed the gates of hell will open for them, but if they fail the destination will be the Heaven and the boring harp performances for eternity. As I am not a big fan of Seka (I do not understand what was so special about her) my expectations were low. Luckily she is not the focus of the film and it's for the better. So the film focus primarily on the two students and their boyfriend (Mike Ranger and Jon Martin). Aubrey Nichols, Eileen Wells and Liza Dwyer are also part of the female cast, Johnny Hardin has a dual role rather amusing and Jamie Gillis has a short role. If you are observant you will see Lisa De Leeuw among the students. I found this movie rather enjoyable, but the final orgy is ridiculously long and badly filmed (which makes the scene rather boring). I am lucky enough to have a full version of this film who is no longer available since a long time. What has been cut, even on the second release on video, is a fisting scene between Serena and Eileen Wells, Dani Williams (scene very successfully done).

California Surfer Girls (1976)

Second and final film directed by Boots McCoy and as with Blazing Zippers (his other one) I'm very unimpressed. This time he fell on a lot of surfing stock footages (the last time it was rodeo) and he will build his movie around this. I say around because there are really no connection between the action and the surfing. The film begins even in the same manner as his other with one of the actresses (Justina Lynn) telling a fantasy she has in her dreams (except that she's not the girl in her fantasy even if it happen to her). I was almost certain she would meet a psychiatrist played by John Seeman after, but it won't happen this time. As in his previous film it's poorly shot, poorly lit (the last scene filmed without lights and through a red filter is a perfect example of this) and badly acted. This is unfortunate since Melba Bruce and Justina Lynn are the two main actresses and Joey Silvera gives a rather good performance (which is certainly not the case of Tyler Reynolds). At least this proves that some productions of that time deserve to be forgotten (which happens frequently with the West Coast productions).

The Fire in Francesca (1977)

Today I choose a detective movie and no it is not a Johnny Wadd, but something more interesting. This is one of the three films directed by Shaun Costello featuring Dan McCord (Roger Caine). Like Dirty Susan (the first Dan McCord movie) this film uses a strong narrative style to counter the low budgetary limitations (we talk of a one day wonder here, a genre of which Costello was the master) and the major events are recounted in flashback. Following the death of Francesca Farrell (Patty Boyd), McCord is hired by Troy Winston (Costello) to find her diary. Obviously, what seems like a simple case isn't and a surprise awaits McCord during its investigation. What makes this film interesting is the performance of Patty Boyd as the film itself isn't that great because of the obvious lack of funding. But as she has three scenes in the short 59 minutes that lasts this movie it's rather easy to overlook its weaknesses. This is not the film of the century but if you're a fan of Patty Boyd you will surely appreciate.

This film is included in the Shaun Costello Collection sold by Alpha Blue Archives, but it is worth noting that the price is prohibitive and the video quality leaves much to be desired. But since this is the only way to get this movie the best thing to do is to take advantage of their discount by ordering two or more sets at the same time.

Time to Love (1971)

I always say that to see Deep Throat as a masterpiece of the adult cinema and one of the first of its kind with a story is an insult. It suffices to think of films like Mona: The Virgin Nymph, .. Love You To Death, The Morning After, The Debauchers or the one reviewed today to see that Deep Throat has been first in nothing. I confess I hate this movie as you will see frequently in my writings. Time to Love is a film with a story, of course it is not the most complex ever written, but we do not feel like watching an excuse to show scenes of sex. The story begins with a meeting of former university students where Ned (Howard Blakey) and John (Harry Reems), two good friends, remembers their past. John is a steady man with a wife (Tina Russell) and two young children, while Ned taking advantage of the many trips he made for his journalist job collects the female conquests. These trips are illustrated with an abundance of stock footage giving an impression of movement. It is interesting to note that this movie uses almost no cum shot (there is one) and some scenes are very quick. It is also worth noting that this film like most of the production of that time did not credit the actors (only Reems and Blakey are), but it is not that difficult to recognize some of them like Jutta David (the first victim in Forced Entry) Jean Parker (the disapeared sister in The Morning After), Patrick Wright (the Alaina Capri's lover in Good Morning ... and Goodbye!) or Tallie Cochrane (the escapee leader in Fugitive Girls) ... but I must confess that I do not recognize any of the others actors. This film is a perfect example of the early golden age productions with an ambience more erotic than pornographic, just wait for the love scene between the couple played by Reems and Russell and you will understand. We even have a pro-ecology speech at the end (the good old socially redeeming value) and you can also recognize the theme song from Bad Girls Go to Hell.

Barbie's Fantasies (1974)

Today I have chosen something a little bit less known and those who know me already for my other movie reviews know how I usually love those movies. This is the first film of Jenny Lane, who was in Winter Heat a film already reviewed here. I must admit that Miss Lane is the main reason to watch this movie despite the fact that Jamie Gillis has a role in this one and that Sue Kelly is a pretty blonde (unless it's an alias this film seems to be her only one). The story is rather simple and consists of a series of encounters between Vicky (Jenny Lane) and her guru (Jeffrey Hurst) who speaks with a ridiculous Indian accent where she recounts her sexual adventures. Unfortunately most of those adventures are not pleasant to look at which is sad since Jenny Lane is incredibly beautifull in this film. But when a man is full of tattoos wrongly done or a woman had a panda tattooed on her thigh or an actor seems to be 16 years old (we did not see his face but his body and his voice shout I am a teenager) I find it difficult to stay interested. Not to mention the conclusion that we see coming from the first meeting between Vicky and her guru. It's a shame because with a better looking supporting cast this film would be enjoyable to watch since it is well filmed and Jenny Lane is the perfect naive girl next door.

Jack and Jill (1979)

This time I choose a Chuck Vincent's classic and in the opinion of many his best production. The story can be summed up simply as this: Jack (Jack Wrangler) and Jill (Samantha Fox) are getting ready to celebrate the first anniversary of their couple and taking advantage of the moment decide to add spice to their relationship. From the start we can understand quickly that this film will be a fun watching time with an hilarious role play scene between Jack and Jill. Thereafter they will experience swinging with their best friend couple (Eric Edwards and Merle Michaels). The funniest moment of the film happens when they decide to consult the classifieds ads to find new couples to swing with when after a series of bizarre encounters a couple (Roger Caine and Vanessa del Rio) come to their home. They are there to act and in the literal sense of the term as they mount a presentation of Romeo and Juliet ... decorations and programs include. Add to this the kidnapping of Jack by two women (Annie Sprinkle and Rikki O'Neal) who made obscene phone calls to his house in the recent days, Jill receiving a slave (George Payne) as an anniversary gift and a case of mistaken identity and you get a great comedy.

A perfect movie with a talented group of actors (this is only the second film of Jack Wrangler that I watched and I must admit he is certainly one of the best actors I have seen in the adult cinema), an incredible chemistry between the two main players and an excellent script. So a highly recommended film.

Like 90% of their material this film deserves a special edition, but it isn't part of the list I received from those who will receive the platinum treatment this year. What is sad is that they didn't start their Platinum Collection a few years earlier, since Jack Wrangler died last year ... Just the idea of a Wrangler and Fox reunion to discuss the film would have been incredible.

Eighteen and Horny (1977)

The first point I should make is that my copy of this film is incomplete ( five minutes are missing in the beginning), but I must say that this does not seem to make much difference. Obviously the movie starts abruptly with a mature couple in bed where the man only think about a girl named Betsy in his head while he make love to his wife. Since the man is played by Jake Teague it's rather easy to make two plus two equals four and guess who is this Betsy. What we will learn pretty quickly when he'll join her in the next room while she sleeps to caress her and get oral sex (without waking her). Yes Betsy is his daughter wich isn't that surprising since it's an usual casting for Jake Teague. The next day during the celebration of the 18th anniversary of Betsy (Erica Havens) an argument broke out between her and her father and she left the house. From this point appears the reason why I have this film when she meets along the way Chelsea (she is played by Marcia Minor, an actress I fell in love with in Hot Child in the City). They are moving in a gymnasium where Chelsea take wrestling class with Dave Ruby, which will lead to a threesome who seems very uncomfortable for the trio involved (Ruby. Minor and Verna Quick). As you can see the film moves from one idea to another quite frequently (at one time Chelsea goes on the tear crisis for some unknown reason). There is a surprise ending, but it is more in the "WTF I don't understand anything at all" department than anything else. This is certainly not a must have, but like all the movies in the Dragon Art Theater serie it has its funny moments and 10$ for a double features this isn't a very big investment to take a chance.

Portrait (1974)

Fortunately after the success of Deep Throat (one of the worst production of the seventies in my opinion) Gerard Damiano has decided to make more serious and interesting films like The Devil in Miss Jones and The Story of Joanna. This film is one of those quality productions, but unlike the two previously mentioned Portrait is a disappeared and forgotten film. What is difficult to understand because it is an high quality production (the best Damiano's film I saw so far) and the first film in the career of Jody Maxwell. The film is set in a psychiatrist's office where Miss Maxwell recounts her problems that seems to be a problem of multiple personalities at her therapist. The film focuses is the character of Jody Maxwell and all the other characters are faceless penises (if we except the comic interlude with Jamie Gillis, Alan Marlowe and Ginger Snaps). The first scene describes an obscene phone call she has received at her home an evening, a scene brilliantly made with the way reality and fiction has been mixed in it (with a bonus scene of urination coming out of nowhere), the musical choice and the facial performance of the caller (an actor I can not recognize). The comic interlude played like a silent film is a good distraction and once again Jamie Gillis shows what a great actor he is. The film ends on a disconcerting note because we are no longer sure whether Jody Maxwell really had a problem of multiple personalities or if she was playing from the start with the psychiatrist (another actor I do not recognize). Unfortunately the copy that I own is not that good, the image had a lot of damage (tracking lines, snow, fade to black,...) and the sound is really hard to hear, obviously I would appreciate to see a restored version of this film one day to really appreciate it in all its greatness.

Deep Inside Annie Sprinkle (1981)

For the first time since this film was showned at the movie theatres we finally get an uncensored presentation of this classic. I must say it's like watching a new movie because I had only seen it previously on VHS with a missing scene and a visual quality more than doubtful. I must admit that despite the fact that I usually prefer the adult films with a story that has not detracted me from the pleasure felt watching this movie. The film is a presentation by Annie Sprinkle of what her life is like. She has chosen to do so to use performers she knows and frequents in her real life. Each moments of the film is built around a particular fetish, so there's something for everyone. So we got regular scenes, a lesbian orgy scene, a masturbation scene, a breast fetish scene, an anal scene with anallingus included and, for the first time since the version presented in theaters, the golden shower scene. Speaking of golden shower this is certainly the most erotic presentation of this fetish ever shown on screen (the fact that Mal O'Ree was her boyfriend at the time was the reason). Another memorable moment was the masturbation scene where Miss Sprinkle reach an orgasmic climax rarely seen on screen. The remaining scenes are also well conceived, but the lesbian orgy lasted a little bit too long for my taste.

Again the presentation on DVD from Video-X-Pix is impeccable and beyond reproach (the other label would gain to get their inspiration from them for their classic films dvd) with a really informative commentary track by Annie Sprinkle herself (presented in another disc in an image on image format (I must say that Miss Sprinkle is still beautiful and has aged very well), a 38 minutes session of questions and answers on a third disc and the original trailer completely restored. To summarize, an essantial disc to the collection of any serious collector or amateur of adult film classic.

I must admit that Video-X-Pix since they started their Platinum Collection is becoming "the label" for the serious fans of classic cinema (actually except for them and After Hours Cinema no other label shows that much respect for their materials). You can prepare yourself for a great year with them with several classic titles program for the platinum treatment that will please every lovers of classic cinema.

Hot Blooded (1985)

The best way to describe this film is that it is a vehicle for Angel, of course anything wrong with that statement. My first encounter with this film was trough the 42nd Street Forever: XXX-Treme Special Edition that contains the trailer of it (this trailer compilation from Synapse Films worth its weight in gold). I can certainly say that this isn't the best film directed by Stu Segall (Insatiable is) but it's still an interesting production. The story takes place in a video club but we must wait some time for that since the director takes the time to build the scenario that leads to it. We start therefore with Melissa (Angel) a young girl living with her mother (Kay Parker) and her stepfather (Robert Kerman) what she doesn't like and the best way she finds to leave the house is to seduce and sleep with her stepfather. Once outside the house she will live with her uncle (Herschel Savage, who looks great in this) who will name her the manager of one of his unprofitable video club with two of her friends (Cara Lott and Karen Summer). The video club from the point of view of a collector is certainly enjoyable to watch with all the materials present on the shelves and all the theatrical posters on the walls. But nothing either special or original happen in the rest of the film. I might even add that the cameo from Harry Reems and Colleen Brennan (who is actually Sharon Kelly, who has been in several B-movies during the seventies) is a missed opportunity. This is not really an important or must have film, but if you're a fan of Angel you will not be disappointed and this film has the typical charm of the early eighties production.

Dynamite (1972)

If I trust imdb the version of this film I own is incomplete (1:13 vs. 0:51) by cons I strongly doubt it because the film seems fairly complete to me. So what we have today is a rather well done production of the Amero brothers, even if this movie is not as bizarre than Bacchanale their previous output. Obviously being a production from the beginning of the seventies the story is not that complicated and is more an excuse to present a series of sex scenes. But this story is still interesting as we follow an hawker saleswoman who sells sexual aids article and the majority of these encounters are quite amusing. The last one is definitely in the WTF category and it's really hard not to laugh from the beginning to the end. This one takes place in a cinema where Monica Rivers (a ravishing redhead) had a sexual relationship with the manager of the theater (Leon Oriana) in front of the screen while the customers watch a movie when suddenly the lights turn on, they continue normally (or as normally as possible when a crowd watches and applauds) when suddenly Stars and Stripes Forever begins to play and a couple (Kurt Mann and Darcy Brown) comes on stage to tap dance and Kurt Mann smiled as it was the best day of his life. Obviously the others meetings does not equal the greatness of this final, but they all have their moment of fun. If we except Dolly Sharp, Jamie Gillis, Kurt Mann and William Love (apart from this film he was in Deep Throat) the rest of the film cast is composed of one timer. But a really well known actress appear in this film since it's the last one of Uta Erickson who has been in countless New York softcore roughies. The only real complaint that I can make about this film is that it was not recorded live and the voices were added later in post-synchronization (which is pretty obvious with the voice of Jamie Gillis since it isn't his voice at all) and some of those voices are rather annoying and unpleasant.

To the best of my knowledge this movie is not currently available on dvd.

Video-X-Pix who own this film works currently on a release of this film. It will be a 2 movies set including also Every Inch a Lady, Jon Amero will be a part of the project. I don't know yet if the result will be a Platinum Edition or a regular boxset, but it's a very good news for all the golden age movie lovers. Thanks to Steven Morowitz of VXP for the update.

Winter Heat (1975)

Three ex convicts (Jamie Gillis, Mickey Humm and Alex Mann) accompanied by a woman (Helen Madigan) decides to attack an isolated house and terrorize its three inhabitants (Susan Sloan, Bree Anthony and Jenny Lane). Is this makes you think at something else? Yes it is an adult version of The Last House on the Left and what it should have been since The Last House on the Left was writen to be an hardcore movie (which would have been interesting to see, but maybe a bit too much). It is also a The Last House on the Left light without policemen, parents or revenge (if there was one, it was certainly well hidden). This is not really a criticism since I always thought that the the police search subplot in The Last House on the Left hurts the film. Jamie Gillis is excellent in his role (but is it really a surprise) and Alex Mann also (despite the fact that his character dialogue is really annoying). On the victims side only Susan Sloan gives a consistent and credible performance. Anthony and Lane have their moments, but their performance is uneven. My copy of this film is not that great : the sound is uneven and we often hear statics, the picture is not much better since it is pixelated and very often jerky. But we must accept this when we decide to explore the adult productions of the seventies. A good movie despite the absence of a revenge at the end and the complete absence of Jennifer Jordan in this film despite being included in the movie credits.

Inside Desiree Cousteau (1979)

As this film will be released later this year in France on DVD (using the original negative) I thought it was a good opportunity to watch it. Obviously to enjoyed these so-called biography films you must appreciate the person in question. This is of course not a problem for me since I like the naive and comical personality that she always had in her performance. More she is one of the few actresses who had a breast augmentation that I appreciate. So in this film she recounts her work experiences before becoming an adult actress and, curiously, the sex always happen in all these jobs at one time or another. The vast majority of these vignettes are interesting, fun to watch and they were made for this movie, unlike the vast majority of the Deep inside X shot later on video that are just compilations of scenes taken from other video (a practice that gave a bad reputation to this genre). I particularly enjoyed the first scene with Desiree and an actor I was unable to recognize that end with an underwater cumshot and the one where she is a saleswoman in a women clothing shop (Juliet Anderson, who plays the manager of the store gives a pretty good performance). In fact as I mentioned previously almost all the scenes are excellent, without the final orgy the movie would have been perfect (I don't like those scenes where the action always shift from one couple to another). In addition to Desiree Cousteau (obviously) Juliet Anderson that I have already mentioned the distribution also includes Sharon Kane, Misty Regan Serena, John Holmes and some others. This film is certainly one that I can see myself buying again depending on the quality of the new French DVD (since the price is somewhat high).

Beach Blanket Bango (1975)

I must begin by saying that the version of this movie I own is not the long version (1:18 compared with 1:37 for the original), but this film by James Bryan seems more or less disappeared like High School Fantasies he directed in 1974. It is therefore evident that it lacks some materials commonly associated with the adult productions. This absence gives the impression of watching a softcore production since there is no money shot and no real close-up. But I certainly not say that this film is uninteresting since Rene Bond is in the distribution and just by her presence she can makes an average film more interesting to watch (try some Dragon Art Theater productions and you'll understand). If you add the inevitable Rick Lutze to this distribution you are almost certain to have a good time, sure he is an actor pathetic in the same league that John Holmes is in, but that's what makes his charm. The rest of the cast do a good job if you consider they did not really had an acting curriculum really big, except for Titus Moede, which has a small cameo. This film is also a musical and I must admit that the music is rather good (but I have no idea if it is original or not), if in fact the soundtrack was available, I'd be the first one in line to purchase it. The story is somewhat confusing but it can easily be explained by the missing 19 minutes (some scenes certainly appears in the wrong order). Anyway complete or not this movie is rather entertaining and at times is reminiscent of the Beach party pictures of the sixties (of course since this movie is a spoof of them) or even films like Hard Days Night. The inclusion of obvious stock footages of surfing and the Vietnam War makes the experience even better.

I got my copy more than four years ago through the website of Shocking video, but it is certain that an official DVD with the inclusion of High School Fantasies would be greatly appreciated.

The Collegiates (1973)

First film directed by Carter Stevens and for a start it's quite well (which isn't necessarily a surprise since Stevens always used professional crew for his films). The film as such does not have the most original story (a group of college girls living together, one of them is still a virgin and is horny all the time). What is the strength of the film is the choice of Tanya Tickler to play "the flaming virgin". As Stevens noted in his commentary she isn't really the most beautiful actress who had appear in this kind of production. What makes her attractive is the fact that she is the every day girl, probably not the first girl you will choose in a group but the one with which you will end the evening and will stay with forever afterwards. The majority of the female cast has not had a long career (if we except Kim Pope and the already mentioned Tanya Tickler) and only Ashley Moore and Harry Reems has really had a long career after this film. Mark Andrews, the main character's in Lickity Split (the second film directed by Steven and his best one) is also present in this movie and is really hard to recognize. Another positive point is the fact that many scenes were shot outdoors contrary to what is the case with those productions usually (without saying that the film location is magnificent). The sex scenes as such are not extraordinary (except for one group scene in a bath which is rather amusing), though the appreciation depends of your tastes, but personally I ain't the biggest group scenes fan and they are good part of the action. A movie I've really enjoyed and once again a proof that a lot of better movies than Deep Throat were made in 73.

Prisoner of Pleasure (1980)

For a film produced for the Avon theater this one is a bit disappointing. Not that the production is not interesting since this film is directed by Shaun Costello (using the alias Jack Hammer). But the disappointment is the fact that compared with their usual productions this film is relatively low in violent sex and, to be honest, this is the main reason to watch an Avon Films production. There is a scene that is worthy to wear the label Avon at the end when Elizabeth Gray (her only role) is suspended by the arms and all those present are striking her ass until it become red and hurt. The rest is nothing unusual and we have to go through a scene of stump fucking again since Jean Silver is in this film (which is not my cup of tea at all). The actresses artistic performance leaves much to be desired (Patrice LaPerle certainly seems no more traumatized than necessary by her kidnapping), but Ashley Moore (the boss of the kidnappers) and Dave Ruby (his lines sure make me laugh) does a good job.

This film is available in the Avon Dynasty - 1980's boxset from Alpha Blue Archives, but I can't really recommanded it since it is quite expensive (149,95 $US) to buy.

Never Sleep Alone (1983)

Like The Virgin And The Lover the only other film of Kemal Horulu I've watched, I've also greatly appreciated this one. What we have here is exactly what I love in an adult film production : highly erotic, romantic, with a real case scenario and sex scenes that do not seem forced. So this is a couple film... The story is about a couple (John Leslie and Tina Marie) who lives an open marriage and seem to live perfectly happy with this arrangement until the arrival of Natalie (Joanna Storm) who will jolt their strong relationship. The story at first sight can seem somewhat simplistic, but this is not the case since it takes a surprising turn in the second half and it ends unexpectedly (although we have some doubt due to the film introduction) and violently (implied, not really on screen). The acting is excellent and because of this, we have no difficulty to believe the characters of John Leslie and Tina Marie are really in love. Joanna Storm and Joey Silvera (for once) are equally credible in their roles. I have particularly enjoyed the first scene between John Leslie and Tina Marie that had made me think of Metzger because Tina Marie keeps her dress for the whole relationship and it's quite common in the films of Radley Metzger (obviously the fact it takes place with the same music used in the final of The Private Afternoon of Pamela Mann strongly help). Except for a scene with Leslie, Honey Wilder, Chelsea, Manchester and Sharon Kane who is unnecessary and adds nothing to the story the film is rather successful. This certainly gives me the desire to try the other films directed by Kemal Horulu.

Breaking It (1984)

As promised earlier I choose something better. This film is about the loss of our virginity and is organized by episode with a narrator between each. First fact to notice is that although the structure chosen we don't get the feeling of watching a series of loops. The second fact to note is that the interpretation is surprisingly just for a production of this period. In fact we see easily that it is their first experience (obviously not the actors, but the character's they play) either by their facial expressions or the innocence of their words. Each episode is a success whether two teenagers (Bunny Bleu [before her ridiculous breast surgery] and Shone Taylor) having their first experience or a young student (Tracy Lords) seducing her teacher (John Leslie) to achieve her goal or a young adolescent (Tom Byron) who brags about his fictitious performance to his friend and gain his first experience because of this friends who sets him with Rachel Ashley (which proves that he has an incredible group of friends). Between each episode there is a scene between Paul Thomas and his niece (Roxanne Rollan) that develops slowly but surely toward the grand final.

Obviously this film is no longer available in the United States since Tracy Lords is in it, but it is really easy to remove the problematic scene with no loss of logic in the construction (as it was done with Wild Things). If you live somewhere else this isn't that hard to find it.

The Babysitter (1983)

Typical production of Gourmet Video, in terms more clear: production of poor quality. So there is nothing special or unusual in this film who really not worth the $10 asked for the purchase. Tara Aire, Rhonda Jo Petty, Danielle Martin and Carmen de la Torre are in the cast and this is not even a positive point because the videography is so poor you can't see a lot of details ... This one is really to avoid like most of the productions of this company that I 've looked untill today.

I'll try to get something better tomorow.

If you want to watch it anyway you can get it from Excalibur Films. At least rent the video on demand it's cheaper...

Maraschino Cherry (1978)

This film is the last adult film directed by Radley Metzger and despite the fact that it is a more interesting one than Barbara Broadcast, I can't say it's a great film (although a weak Metzger's film is a great one for several directors). My problem with this film is the absence of a real story (ok, there was one but it's a really simple one for someone who has made Misty Beethoven, Naked Came the Stranger, The Image and Score). So we have a sex film and not a movie with sex scenes in it. Not that those scenes are unerotic or look forced (like most of what has been produced in the last 20 years), but they seem to be there just because ... As I mentioned some of these scenes are particularly successful as the one between Leslie Bovee and Eric Edwards or the one in the dungeon with Leslie Bovee, Gloria Leonard and CJ Laing. Like all the others Metzger's films this one has an interesting cast with Annette Haven, Jenny Baxter, Susan McBain, Clea Carson and Constance Money (as I am a big fan of her and she has two scenes in the film this is great plus) among others.The fact that I'm not the biggest fan of Gloria Leonard certainly plays a role in my lack of enthusiasm also (but I must confess that she looks great on the poster of All About Gloria Leonard that we see constantly During her interview on the DVD).

It is sad to know that this is the only Metzger's film that belongs to Video-X-Pix since the DVD presentation is superb (their logo occasionally appears for 5 seconds maximum, but this is not something that bothers me so much than that). In the extra there is an interesting interview with Gloria Leonard (despite the fact that I am not a fan I always enjoy her interviews or commentaries), the original trailer and many more materials. An exellent restoration work from Video-X-Pix that give me great expectations when I think of all the great classics that are in their vault ...

Anna Obsessed (1977)

One of the few films of Constance Money (she is credited in 9 movies, but for Maraschino Cherry and Barbara Broadcast her presence is only deleted scenes from The Opening of Misty Beethoven) and her last one before her short comeback in 1983 in A Taste of Money. This film is in the same line than Misty Beethoven, Sometimes Sweet Susan and The Taking of Christina, a masterpiece of cinema for adults. What we have here is a high quality thriller with a serial rapist who rode and make us felt his presence throughout the film, but we never see him until the very end of the film. The acting is of high quality, but with John Leslie, Annette Haven and Constance Money in the lead roles it isn't really a surprise. This is certainly not a pleasant film to watch (the scene between Leslie and Money is almost enjoyable until the rape flashbacks are incorporate in the scene) and the rape of Constance Money is particularly hard to watch (a gun is used to rape her). A very professionally made film (it's obvious that he was directed by someone famous who didn't want to be recognized) that I highly recommend. But I do not recommend in any way the dvd released by VCA (surprise, surprise ...) with more than 5 minutes of cut materials. I suggest to try to get the video version. The video is also incomplete, but with the exception of an original film print this is the only way to see this film in a way that makes sense.

Angel Number 9 (1974)

I always liked the Roberta Findlay's movies, so it is not surprising that I liked this one also. It is not the most original film in the history of cinema, but it is certainly an above average adult movie. Basically the subject is the expiation of the sins Steven (Alan Marlowe, one of the most underrated actors of the 70s) has committed just before his death. The atonement came in the form of a return on earth thanks to the intervention of the angel # 9 (Jennifer Jordan, one of my favorite actresses) in a female body (Darby Lloyd Rains) by which he will lived what he had made lived to Linda (Jason Day) his last girlfriend. Like any film by Roberta Findlay we felt the impression of listening a movie and not a fuck fest (I have nothing against the one day wonder, but I like much this kind of cinema). The story is still quite complex and Steven will meet his equal in the person of Jeff (Jamie Gillis, always equal to himelf) and he will suffer the same rejection almost word for word. A film I strongly suggest to discover the quality and eroticism that were present in these productions (the first scene between Darby Lloyd Rains and Jamie Gillis is a good example, if someone who had seen the film know the intrumental song used in it I'd like to know).

This film is available as a very good quality stand alone version from VCX (The version I own) or in a double feature dvd from Alpha Blue Archives (but probably in a lower print quality).

American Babylon (1985)

This is certainly not a movie for the casual viewers since it's a film directed by Richard Mahler who is an alias used by Roger Watkins, the director of the great horror film Last House on Dead End Street. This isn't the usual eighties fuckfest, but more an artistic film which blends reality and imagination. The mixing of the grainy black and white films that Robert (Bobby Astyr in one of his best career performance) and Thomas (Michael Gaunt, also excellent in this film) watch with the color pictures of the real world is what is used to create this atmosphere and often we can no longer distinguish what is true from what is false. The performance of Tish Ambrose is also excellent, but it is obvious that this film is a two men show and the other performers are secondary and accessories (Taija Rae, one of the most gorgeous women to have made this type of cinema is one of those accessory characters). The film ends with the two central characters watching a movie (Menopausal Males in Bondage) together. This film is a 10 minutes montage of almost everything that has happened to them previously in the movie, it can be easily interpreted as a reflection on us the watcher who live his life through what happens on the screen. Honestly one of the best productions of the 80s who actually sleeps in the vault of VCA Pictures, which is not necessarily a bad thing when we know how little respect this company had for its materials.

This film is not available on dvd, but it deserves a special edition ... It is a shame that this film doesn't belong to Video-X-Pix since this label understands the importance of their archives.

Amber Lynn's 976 Hot Line (1987)

Typical Products of the 80s, so no real history here. But as it's the decade when I started watching this type of movie the nostalgia aspect plays a certain role in the apreciation. Well like I said the scenario is somewhat simplistic and goes something like this: Amber Lynn is a businesswoman who owns an 1-976 service and we'll see how she conducts her business (I'd say it was not very deep). Of course almost everything that was produced during this period was an excuse to watch sex on screen (when 80% of your screen time is devoted to these scenes it's difficult to find another reason). On this point the film delivers the goods with Amber Lynn on the top of her form (before her unnecessary breast surgery in the nineties), Blondie Bee (a typical blonde of this era, but with an annoying voice) and Sharon Mitchell who delivers a solid performance as usual. On the other hand the performance of Tracey Adams (one of my favorite actresses of that period) is very disappointing. The highlight of the film is the scene where Amber Lynn plays with herself in her bathroom talking directly to the viewer (I always found that arousing). While listening the movie I couldn't stop thinking if this movie was not in fact a disguised advertisement for a service of erotic line, but after 22 years the many number mentioned are certainly not functional anymore ...

All the Senator's girls (1977)

Not every movie deserves to be rediscovered and this film is one of those who would gain by staying hidden. The story deals with a senator who campaigned on an anti-pornography crusade to win his election, but it does not matter because it has nothing to do with what happens. So what is really happening? The Love Boat, but with a group of friends unattractive and the Senator. So for 50 minutes were going to watch the most boring orgy ever seen and despite the fact they are six women and three men involved in it ... Although the film lasts only 58 minutes it seems endless. Complete waste of time ...

This film is available trough After Hours Cinema in a double pack with The Presidential Peepers a movie with Tina Russell much more interesting than this one.

All American Girls (1982)

I was really hoping to liked this film after watching its trailer on the 42nd Street Forever trailers compilation from Synapse Films. I must be frank and admit that the film has several positive aspects to please. He has a good budget; it was filmed in England, France, Hong Kong and the United States; the cinematography is impressive; the very underrated Laura Lazare is a part of the movie' cast and the final scene between Jacqueline Lorian and Steven Douglas is highly erotic. My problem is that the film has no real story and every scene is an adventure recounted by the different women present at the reunion meeting. I understand very well that this genre please a lot of fan and if you like this genre usually this one is sure to please you, but this genre is not my cup of tea (when I watch a movie I want to see a story and not a montage of loops).

Affairs of Janice (1975)

The film begins with the image of a drowned man floating in a pool which is a bit mysterious. We quickly discover that this man is George King (Zebedy Colt) and what happened to him. We go into the crime thriller genre with Colt as narrator. I will not give more details because it will spoiled the pleasure of watching. Despite this obvious budgetary limitation the film manages to be interesting because the story is well constructed and developed (which is usually the case with the Zebedy Colt's films). There is nothing wrong with the performances of Colt, Crystal Sync, CJ Laing and Ras Kean. On the other side Annie Sprinkle (the reason for her precence in this film is to play the most extreme scenes) and Bobby Astyr have little reason to be in this movie. The end à la "Tales from the Crypt" is particularly successful.

But I must say that this film is not the best I've seen from Colt. His films are usually more extreme and this one is too conventional for him. The fact that the video quality of the film is not impressive (a VHS transfer and a picture way too bright) does not help, but on the other side the soundtrack is perfectly clear. In a more simple way we can say that it's a typical Alpha Blue Archives released. If you are satisfied with the quality of their product usually you should have no difficulty with the visual quality of this movie.

A Coming of Angels (1977)

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie, I expected something completely different. In fact by the title and the synopsis I thought I will watch a light film based on the Charlie Angels series. This is not the case at all because the mood of this movie is rather dark. The film is set in a secluded location and the subject is the white slavery. Throughout the film we see how Mark (Jamie Gillis) is capturing his victims and how he tame them. Although the topic seems to be in bad taste this is not the case at all. For example, during a scene between Mark, Robert (John Leslie) and Andrea (Susan McBain) we quickly see that what should be a sexual humiliation became a summit of erotisism because of the apparent Stockholm syndrome of Andrea. To make the film more light numerous flashback scenes are presented and there is a running gag throughout the film with John Leslie who can never finish his relations. I was somewhat disappointed by the end of the film because I expected a stronger revenge by the girls.

The interpretation in this is the best you can get in this genre with Jamie Gillis playing a bad guy like him only can, John Leslie does well in a cast against type role, Abigail Clayton playing perfectly again the innocent victim (she was unfortunately typecast in that kind of role) and Amber Hunt gave a surprising interpretation in comparison with what she usually does. Leslie Bovee and Annette Haven without being great are corect and the Eric Edwards' talent is wasted in a non-role. Surprisingly Joel Scott, the director of this film has never directed another film. I strongly suspect that this name is an alias for someone more famous since he was the author and producer of Sometimes Sweet Susan a film whose director has used the same ploy.

After much hesitation I decided to take the plunge and create my space. If you share my love and respect for the adult cinema you're in the right place. As the days goes by you will read my impressions on the various films I watch.

Of course I don't pretend to be an expert, but I found that there is a lack of information about this cinematographic genre not very respected.
